I just got my ACT connection activated this afternoon and wanted to share my experience with y'all. After the recent tariff hike from Airtel

I decided to give other ISPs a try, if only as a form of silent protest. I've been lurking on this thread for a while now and having read all the negative reviews here I was skeptical about ACT, but eventually decided to take the plunge last week.
Here's a rough timeline of events:-
[*] Friday, 10th August - Called CC for general inquiry (and to get an idea of what I was getting into!). Satisfied, I contacted ACT through their website to express interest.
[*] Saturday, 11th August -- Got a message asking me to keep documents ready. Their rep visited me that very evening and collected the stuff.
[*] Monday, 13th August -- Got a verification call
[*] Tuesday, 14th August - Got several calls from their reps who seemed eager to finish installation asap. Me being at work they couldn't complete the entire setup but said they'll 'come tomorrow'
[*] Thursday afternoon, 16th August -
Two of their technicians arrived and activated my account. Overall I was impressed with their conduct and technical know-who. The CC lady who did the final verification seemed confident and competent as well. Finally setup was done and speedtest revealed blazing fast speeds!
[*] Thursday evening, 16th August -
All of a sudden my internet stops working! :crying: Instantly recollecting the unfavorable reviews on this thread I thought to myself "WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO!", while glad at the same time that I'd planned to retain my Airtel connection for a month at least and not disconnect until I was convinced ACT was reliable.
I called their CC and all lines were busy. Luckily I managed to find an alternate CC number where they took my complaint. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call within 5 minutes saying someone was on the way! Within another 5 minutes their technician arrived and tinkered with the monstrous contraption they've installed outside my house and Lo behold, my net was back! :clapping:
[/list]
The Verdict: So far so good. Obviously I'll need to wait a bit longer to be sure.

I'll post updates on my experience at regular intervals. Moderator - would there be any objection to me creating a new thread for that purpose?
Thanks all for reading this looong post.
Sigh - more issues

I made the mistake of not checking my ACT connection all day today (was on Airtel to use up what little FUP remains) and when I plugged my ACT line in just out of curiosity I was NOT pleased to note that I was unable to login to the network - a problem reported earlier by others in this thread as well. My auth credentials are obviously correct but for what it's worth I used ACT's "retrieve password" option hoping that would help. I got an SMS seconds later. Great, right? Well, not exactly - the SMS was a giant wall of JAXRPC (Java) stack trace instead of the password! So somewhere on ACT's servers some fragile code crashes each time a customer attempts password retrieval; this crash message is neatly wrapped into an SMS and sent to the customer!. This would be hilarious if only it weren't happening to me!
I've switched my Airtel line back on now and will probably use it for the rest of the night. If my ACT connection continues to be down in the morning their CC is going to get an earful from me.
