Just applied for it. Registration charges Rs. 1000. Guy did not force for any hardware. Looks good so far. Though the guy did say that the network in my area is in bad shape so I guess trouble is in store for me.

You could have taken mts dongle for backup. Test speed at your place before buying.

dongles are not for me i work from the basement plus i like the stability of wired connectivity. the whole idea of the backup is to be working when i need it

You can plug wifi dongle in ground floor and get signal easily in basement.
Regarding backup I think wireless is less prone to downtime.

That I can do. Just not comfortable with the idea. I have never owned a dongle (well i have not owned a laptop in a long time as well )

Well your wish, i was saying that also because You can use prepaid dongle also. Recharge it only when main line is down.
Why pay fixed cost every month for a backup line.

Because the backup connection is always in use. Reliance is connected directly to my desktop. Bsnl is connected to the wireless router which is used by my phone and the Chromebook in the house.

In a sense I need the backup connection to be online 24x7 coz my dad drives me crazy if his Chromebook stops working. This is why Reliance is not powering the wireless network in my house.
