@Karan, thats correct, its a farce to think that x-DSL sync rates are sole determinants of speed, or in VDSL, there would be no back-end limits to the speed.

Hi guys, I'm currently using SitiCable in Saket, Delhi. I'm currently on the 150GB 50mbps plan for 1034/month. Of late I've been facing some connectivity issues with SitiCable albeit the LCO guys quickly resolve it and are usually on the job.

I contacted Airtel after they came out with these new plans and they checked the speeds in my area, they're saying I will get up to 40mbps and have offered me the 1099 plan in which I get a total of 90+83GB/month data.

I wanted to know what is the usual down time with Airtel and how quick is the resolution if there is any issue? Further, after one year, what is the possibility of Airtel extending such plans or giving such benefits? And, is there consistency in the speed or up to 40mbps means ~20mbps?

The Airtel chap said there are aluminum cables laid in my area and there should be no issue with the speed.

Airtel's USP has always been reliability, there should be no issues provided the wiring in your area is good, it is best to ask a neighbour who has been with airtel to get a fair idea. As far as response time, they are pretty quick there too.

The one area airtel has always sat on the fence with is their plans/pricing, though with stiff competition they have been forced to get off that fence and be competitive. One thing is certain, airtel always reacts to others, they have never taken the lead to shake things up.

As for the speeds, another thing airtel is great at, 40Mbps means you will get 40Mbps if not more than that at all times.

Don't be too worried about the wires, if the existing wires in your house cause issues, they will gladly replace them to get your issues sorted.

Thanks Karan for the swift response! That seems to take my mind off the apprehensions I have about Airtel. And you're on point when you say that other companies has forced Airtel's hand to make their plans more competitive.

I don't know if you recall, but Airtel had some "secret" plans sometime back where they were only offering them to existing customers. When I went to Airtel asking about them, they straight up told me that since we're the leader in broadband services in your area we aren't offering it here. So basically, a big fcuk you since we have a large clientele and a monopoly in private broadband services.

Well, karma comes around to bite them in the ass since now we got Hathway, Excitel, ACT and Siticable in the area too, offering a lot more VFM plans.

So, in between the listed providers, would you still recommend Airtel? Or would Hathway be a good option too?

I can't comment on hathway as I have never used them. I have several providers in my society, for me first priority is realiabilty above all else, airtel is top of all in that respect, the new plans also soften the higher pricing blow as well.

I did use that "secret plan", got 40Mbps when airtel wasn't officially offering it at those prices. That is basically the issue with airtel, where there is competition, they will be competitive, where there isn't, they will give a "we don't care, we are the best" attitude.

The trick that works with airtel to get more value out of them is to threaten to leave them aka cancel service. Thats when they start to offer you that you really want. Since you have so many options in your area, you could use this to good effect.

^ No it's still there. They are simply not displaying all the available plans. You now have to email or call 121 to know more about the plan details.

Thanks for the response @Karan! I have just one last question, what is the upload speed on the 40mbps connection and the post FUP speed?

That's not bad at all, compared to the dismal 1mbps I get on SitiCable. It totally bottlenecks all video calling.
