Thanks... Reminds me of old saying that customers in India are really meant to 'kasht se mar' .

Customers in India are much better off than their western counterparts. I have worked in an international call center and know the plight of customers in UK. Their costs are exorbitant. If you want to book a landline, you have to enter into a minimum one year contract. Installation & visiting charges with appointment and if the customer misses the appointment your money is gone. Monopoly of British Telecom as against free market in India where MTNL, Airtel, Tata, etc have the rights to lay down their individual wires and set up own infrastructure. India has the world's lowest call rates and Indian telecom companies are best in the world when compared with the prices that we pay for the services provided. So when it comes to telecom, India is much ahead. Its not for anything else, why Vodafone, SingTel & Telenor came here and AT&T others are trying.

Even bigger problem is the last revision in service tax by the govt. of India. 12.36% is a huge tax. Why should the govt.tax us so much? Even a small increase in rental magnifies our pay outs for services.

Service Tax is the best tax because it has to be paid by everyone (no discrimination of rich & poor) and no one can evade this tax unlike other taxes. Hence, government should move to increase service tax and completely abolish income tax.

Its because we all take it lying down, that companies like Airtel feel free
to pick our pockets at their whims & fancies.

" DO YOU PEOPLE KNOW THAT NO COMPANY CAN REVISE YOUR TARRIF WITHOUT YOUR APPROVAL"

They simply cannot inform you that your tarrif has been revised, they are not administrators who
can arbitrarily pass an ordinance which affects some one's finances, they have to take your approval
& if you do not agree offer you a product that fits your budget.

Yeah buddy, they have informed well in-advance of you receiving the bill & when you call up for disconnection they offer you a plan that fits your needs. After 6 months of signing up, as per TRAI regulations, tariffs can be increased.

Hi hno3..

I'm currently on a retention plan of 799.. although I haven't received a message from Airtel.. I had contacted the Airtel CC yesterday for some query about my plan and was told that my rental would be hiked to 850.. and would be receiving an sms/email shortly..

This is crazy.. on one hand Airtel is increasing their rates and on the other, MTNL is introducing some really enticing plans..
Unlimited Plans

Think its time to switch to MTNL.. by far the best ISP in Mumbai currently..

I have already switched over. What are you waiting for :-). Just tip the MTNL lineman well (minimum 100 INR) and you will be all set.

Let me ask one basic question. Do the regulatory changes apply only to airtel? It seems so and they don't apply to MTNL. I've not heard from MTNL about any hikes.

It applies to everyone but Airtel has increased in order to prevent getting a hit on its profitability. Whereas MTNL, don't mind being in losses. You can google MTNL's financial performance. There are also talks that Airtel, Vodafone, Idea & Reliance bribe their MTNL & BSNL counterparts to under-perform so that slowly they run out of steam (like Air India now).

My current bill reflects the 50rs hike on a pro-rata basis. It says bills have marginally increased due to regulatory changes!!! (effing wankers)

half the time their tariff pages do not load. and trai format is outdated or inaccessible.

Hi
What are the various new Airtel broadband tariffs/plans ?
Please give me the update.
Thanks
Simple. Email them & ask for the new plans. That's how I got the plan details.

also... their plans usually have a bunch of typos. so apply common sense before getting excited :D
