prefer quantity over quality. now that i am switching to bsnl, i have to be prepared for bad days (downtimes :D ).

oh i should have known,u give much preference to data than pings(quality) ;).

u wont be having a down time, but might face cable problem that s it.

u should forget about cable problems also since u r not using telephone.internet wont affect most of the time.what s the speed u r getting now???

having a backup connection is nice and all that. but airtel is way too expensive to be kept as a second connection :\

What is the line rate you consider optimum for a 4mbps connection? Right now both you and I are at 3999kbps which translates to 3999/8=499.875 which is not far from the actual line rate 4mbps should be, 4096/8=512. I've never had a problem with this because I've never experienced above 460kb/s on any BSNL 4mbps connection in Bangalore, even the line rate was above 4500kbps.

god knows what setting affects the top download speeds. a friend in rourkela on bsnl gets 5mbps on his 4mbps connection at times. but on my connection, i have not reached beyond 350KBps. 4mbps means that i should reach a peak of at least 512KBps. there is a huge difference between 350KBps and 512KBps. i do not simply accept it as a loss in transmission.
