bro I am using BSNL teracom modem in CDMA mode as EVDO signals are not avaialbe in my area. My speed also fluctuates sometime it drops to 0kbps then it resume again even sometimes I have to unplug and then plug-in into USB port. So I think problem may not be caused by your modem and since your frns's dad is in high position officer in bsnl so you can ask him to give you a modem to check at your home.

@cmsiva, If you are using a mts modem manufactured by Huawei then u'll get 1x speed for sure, some of unlocked zte dongles can give u 3x speed but not all

Mine is ZTE made..Howecer as i mentioned earlier i get 1.5mbps+ stable during night time..During day it just isnt stable ..It does go beyond 1mbps during daytime but keeps fluctuating heavily. To my surprise i went to my open terrace and checked at around 4.30pm and noticed holding the modem towards a particular direction with my hand makes speed stay above 1.9mbps and goes upto 2.4mbps..however if i keep it down or place it somewhere in the same direction speed falls below 1mbps..no idea whats wrong.i dont know if speed is changing because of modem or extension cable which has lots of crushes n twists..i find occasionally twisting the cable boosts speed but sometimes it reduces too. Based on direction. After 1 week of experimenting I still have no clue regarding which direction I have to keep d dongle or which place, cause i never get the same experience everyday ..keeps changing .

See this one of my facebook friend tried this antenna jugaad and experienced a good boost in signals.
P.S.- sorry first time posting a image so could not embed comment and image into a single post

What material? Copper wire or aluminium? And where to use this? I dont want to open the modem and insert it.Mine isnt privthi so i dont want tontake risk and open the modem for placing this.

sorry to all i forgot to tell how he used it.He did not inserted into modem just slide your modem into bottom loop so that your modem would be placed between that loop thats it

^^it's copper. Who uses aluminum? :o
Hi bro.have you tried any such methods yourself? Your experience? And speeds during daytime?
**update:Speed seems to stay decently around 1.4mbps after 2pm but only when i place the modem along with the extension cable in a particular manner, even if i shake the cable slightly, speed begins fluctuating and drops and never touches peaks again..Seriouslly confusing if wheather problem is in my modem or usb extension cable or network traffic or if it is normal.:rolleyes::huh::huh:
