Buying a 2.5Gb ONT

Me and a few others have formed a group and are ordering VSOL 2802 2.5 gbps onts.
It has a 2.5 gbps and a 1 gbps port. If someone needs to order then they can join us, it'll cost approx 2.5k per unit plus shipping.

Can you explain your use case ? Why do you need 2.5gbps port on a xpon ont ?

GPON supports upto 2.5gbps downlink right? So this futureproofs us.
Also suppose you have a gigabit plan and your ISP overprovisions it, you'll also get that speed provided you have the right hardware.

@Aashish.007 when are you guys planning to import, can you give a tentative date or something? I am still figuring a few things w.r.t setting up pfSense, planning to go through the SFP route.

@Juniper Refer to this thread. I am still exploring options but a fanless industrial PC seems to be the ideal choice. Yes it will have SFP ports.

@Aashish.007 thanks for the offer but i'd have to decline as of now. I am still figuring out device options for pfSense and I am not sure if I am gonna need a 2.5G ONU. Sorry.

Don't you think they'd give multigig connection on xpon rather GPON? Unless you are on dedicated port or max 4-6split rather current 16-32 spilt.
I am sure its easier to change olt rather than fiber split ratio for everyone.
To future proof better get a 2.4gig port xpon+gpon if that product exist?!

@igloo xpon is cross compatible with EPON and GPON. What you probably mean is xgspon. Multi gig rollout until 2.5gbit will probably continue on gpon since ISPs probably don't have to upgrade OLTs at their end and none of the ISPs here have the budget/foresight to scope things out a few years and upgrade hardware early on
