I have researched a lot and narrowed it down to these 2. I want to spend preferably less than RS 30,000 but still get a brand that works well.I can get Electrolux or Panasonic 1.5 ton Split non-inverter AC from 2 diferent dealers. Both cost RS 27,000.I was all set to go for Panasonic since that has more of a name but then I saw Electrolux is 3 star while Panasonic is 2 star for the same price. Also Electrolux has a couple of features that I think this basic model of Panasonic does not have. It has anti-bacterial filter and anti-odor. Whether these 2 things really mean anything, I don’t know. They may just be tall claims.I hesitate to buy Electrolux since I don’t know if it’s an inferior brand. I was told that brands like Lloyd, LG, Samsung, Onida, Whirlpool, and Voltas don’t work as well as the better ones like Panasonic.I have seen some negative reviews on the net for Electrolux but then I have seen many negative reviews for Panasonic too.Is the fact that Electrolux is the same price as Panasonic though it has more features due to the fact its some inferior machine? Thanks for any help.

None of the brands will last you more than 4-7 years. Just go with one, gut feel. I have tried many brands of acs, but not Electrolux. My OG lasted 4 years only. We had a Fedders Lloyd in the 80s, which was good then. Carrier was good too. Currently on Daikins. Hitachi gave me a lot of trouble, similar to OG. Samsung split is 7 years old and going pretty ok, but it is the least used ac in our living room.

The Panasonic model you described, i am using it since last 5 months. go for it, it's pretty good.
Only drawbacks i found is there is no temperature indicator on the indoor panel, neither there is any swing inclination indicator in the remote. And the remote does not have backlit illumination and is of mini size.
otherwise anti-bacteria and anti-odor are just gimmicks.

Thanks for your answers, everyone. Is the star rating also a gimmick or does 3 star really consume less electricity than 2 star? Since I only use the Ac for maybe 6 to 8 hours a day, 4 months a year, I don’t think it would save much power. Saving a hundred rupees a month doesn’t mean that much.
Also, I don’t understand what is meant by no swing inclination indicator in the remote. I thought most of these models only have a two way swing anyway, ie up and down. they don’t swing from side to side and we have to manually adjust and direct the grills that way.
Also, my Air Command Window Ac lasted for 18 years. I am looking for an Ac that will last at least 10 years.

Yup, As your usage is going to be low it doesn't makes any sense to spend few thousand extra on a 3 star when you are going to save few hundreds per year. also from next year again the whole rating system will be revised upwards, so those having 5 star will be downgraded.

I was taking about the up & down swing only. In that you have 4-5 settings which in all Split Ac remotes i have seen have are denoted by a line in the remote, it comes pretty handy to check at what angle your ac swing is at w/o looking at the a/c

Thanks a lot, Ashish. Because of what you said I went to a big store and checked both Electrolux and Panasonic out.
You are right, Panasonic doesn’t have a display on the indoor panel.
The dealer told me:
1. Electrolux has copper coils while PAnsonic has that only in 5 star versions. He said copper is better, cools faster. I googled and see some people agree with that.
2. BUT, Panasonic is made with Japanese technology and people feel that is always superior. While Electrolux is made with European technology.
Now whether that last means anything, I don’t know. What makes the Japanese technology so superior? Does that mean any machine made in Japan will work more efficiently and last longer?
And are copper coils really superior?

copper coils is higher efficiency and quicker cooling.Japanese or european technology, who cares..we are in india and we need robust.panasonic claims that their dvices have it what it takes to deal with spikes and low voltage in Indian conditions.Electrolux is advised only if you have a good quality power, else you need a good quality stabilizer anyways,be it panasonic or any other brand.

I'm using Daikin split ac which is really good for me. Great and quick cooling. Service person calls me every 3 Months for service, until AMC lasts. Checkout daikin if it covers ur budget

Yes, copper coils are really superior. but the main thing is compressor where panasonic scores over electrolux. In under 30 K budget this is a very good bet.
It comes with blue fin condenser, don't know whether electrolux comes with it
