By embedded content you mean:
Smileys
Display pics
Any signature/footer in posts
Advertisements
Not sure about the advertisement, but rest isnt a problem afaik.
embedded images from imgur and other sources. youtube media embeds as well. imgur does support https for their images but you have to make that change yourself. so basically all pages with http based images and videos would show the error message.
hehe. xenforo has a cool feature where i can configure the forum to locally cache all third party media content. it works great for photos. videos probably not. that can solve this problem.
right now, i can possibly use google pagespeed to locally cache all images and even convert them to webp on the fly. last time i tried it, it basically overloaded the server. a major update of mod_pagespeed is upcoming with the new improved webp encoder.
in the end, the efforts are just not worth it. yes, i get the value of running a https website but the downsides are significant.
Is there a way to implement a restriction on posting insecured contents? like blocking posting of posts having images with http url, and only allow https contents?
haha. it is already complicated enough for non-techie users to post images here... blocking insecure embeds would further complicate things for the regular guy.
maybe IPB4 would be a crappy enough update like vB5... that would force me to switch to XF which has this feature inbuilt... moving to https would be quite simple then.
