Text rendering is still horrible in Chrome. Enabling DirectWrite in Chrome Stable makes the browser unstable.

folks with FF, here is an option
in about:config
search for
mousewheel.with_control.delta_multiplier_y and change value to 10(might need to tweak around for your resolution)
then pressing ctrl key and scrolling sholud scroll one entry at a time
you can also use
mousewheel.with_shift.delta_multiplier_y
mousewheel.with_alt.delta_multiplier_y
to use shift or alt key instead of ctrl key

What if you have smooth scrolling enabled?

Right. That will work. I tried the simple mousewheel.default.delta_multiplier_y and it slowed the overall page scrolling so much that it became unusable.

yup. there is an add-on but i want to avoid installing it because it is not a much used feature.
