The latest Google+ app update for Android now allow uploads from folders outside the default camera folder. So basically you can now backup screenshots and photos and videos recorded by other apps too.
PSA: Based on what I have been reading on the Google+ Help community... Do not delete important photos using the Google Photos app on the Android phone. The app is supposedly designed to sync all changes so locally deleted photos would also get deleted from Google+ Auto Upload if you are using it to backup your photos. Almost 90% of all complaints on Google+ Help community are from people who are confused about this functionality. Even I used to believe that deleting photos from ON DEVICE section (accessible from sidebar) would delete the photos only locally. But that is apparently not accurate.
I personally backup my photos on Google Drive so I have not experienced any problems with missing images. But a lot of people are very annoyed with important photos lost forever.
