What is this fuss around "Slowing" down time or "Speeding" up time??

U just tell me how do i slow down time?? Shud i just fit a used up battery into my watches?? Or shud i slow down the watches of people around me, so that my time runs faster??

Talk from common man's perspective. The thing u speak of, looks good in books!! How do u & me, slow down or pace up time?? as simple as that!!

run, run really really fast, the faster u run, slower time will pass for you.
this is as simple as i can get.

unfortunately the answer lies in ur ques.

It is not possible for a common man to understand this, if one has a complete understanding of the theory of relativity only then one can.
Then only one can understand things like time dilation and length elongation. Wait but before understanding the eqns one has to go to through the world of Lagrangian and hamiltonians and most gulp at that.

So how many people u know, who have used this "Slowing" down of time to actually go to his past, rectified a few mistakes, & returned?? Or to make things simple for u, the other 2 things are optional. Atleast show me few people who have travelled to their past........

@l33t - Well people have tried a few explanations, but doesnt it seem funny, that the people around gave no reaction, and that person also seemed very casual...

So what is it according to you.. A time traveller who travlled in the "past" talking to people in the "present" and sharing the experience...

mate i keep a open mind, time and space continuum is too much for my tiny brain. when you look up at stars you are looking back in time, if someone is watching us from a star light years off he watching us in that time, so maybe what we are seeing now does not even exist. time is the biggest mystery of all time. pick hawkings 'brief history of time'. it's a melon turner. when you reach the speed of light time stops just for you not for things around you. so let's say if the theory that universe is going to collapse one day after expanding to full THEN time will go backwards, you die first then be born !! confusing an' it !!

but there is is too much ground evidence around us of time travelers even if we look into ancient times. and even now according to some ppl we are in race in a timeline for the life of me i can't find that link it was from a very reputed scientists working for u.s govt , and it has something to do with Roswell incident of 47 .

on this i will keep a open mind for the time being.

@ saarth.....Thats just running away from the problem!! It "May" be possible in future isnt any answer. I will hatch my own theories & say that i will be able to travel thru Network wires along with the data, and reach anywhere i want!!I will give so many wierd twists to it so that nobody understands it. Then i will say "ITS NOT FOR COMMON PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND"!! What will u do? How will u counter such theories??

i never said its not for common people to understand.
relativity when it came out , no one understood it except 3-5 people. and it had no practical use either. it was unproven elaborate theory, like string theory is one now.
today, every physics graduate studies and hopefully understands relativity (atleast somewhat in theory, if not the mathematics behind it), and its used in daily life.
e.g. GPS systems, air navigation, satellites etc. Relativity is now a proven fact, verified experimentally numerous times.

prob the same must have happened when Newton came out with his theory for Gravity, now we study it in 6th grade and hopefully everyone who does understands it.

well if can't believe "until i have seen it happening" how will u explain things based on quantum mechanics in which things can exist at multiple places at the same time,
things like u or atomic particles can pass through a wall/pot. barrier etc.can happen under such theories. It is not that there are no practical apps for it, may things like tunnel diodes etc are based on such principles.
