how to increase BSNL EVDO speed?

hi, i am from trivandrum, kerala and recently i purchased BSNL EVDO.. in my room i used to get 3 bars initially but now i am getting only 2 bars and the max. speed in less than 200kbps. i tried the slide Cd trick but it didn't help much. browing spped is also low...will the signal increase if i keep the EVDO near the window using USB extension cable? i will be needing around 5m cable for the purpose . somebody told me that it will reduce the signal if the cable length is large? please advice? My nearest tower is 4 km way. please advice?

@Bijoy, I dont know the theoretical side of it, but practically I found that if I am using EVDO in some rooms, or some side of my house its giving me better speed. And even the speed depends from time to time. Your best bet is to try the speed sometime late night. Get a normal USB extension cable (max 3 m) and use the dongle. Try to place it at different locations and different angles to see the signal strength. It takes lot of patience and luck. And few things I learned
- 2 bars is more than enough to get a decent speed.
- dont try huge http downloads without a downloading utility, as the connection gets broken at times
- if you feel the speed is getting pathetic at times, try restarting your PC
- Usual speed ranges from 100 - 800 kbps
- I have never got a speed more than 1.5Mbps ever , and that too only once. At night time, mostly I get around 1.2 Mbps
- EVDO speed purely depends on your luck.
- And, I didnt get a bill till now for EVDO and not yet paid and still I am using it
- And finally, you are on your own, no one at BSNL exchange know how to trouble shoot or help you

You can't expect to win a grand-pix with a second hand scooty..can U?I think that answers your query...200kbps is great and U r luckier than most EVDO users:thumb:

thanks guys... i will try the USB cable....regarding the speed, i got 200kbps when i was downloading files using firefox. during browsing the speed is less than 10kbps and the sites takes lot of time to load. i wanted to increase this speed also... 800 kbps you mentioned is while downloading file or plain browsing?

I meant 200kbps surfing means 25kBps downloads....amazing speeds u got mate:thumb:

Dude I get minimum 100kbps in torrent(provided: torrent quality is medium atleast). And minimum 120 kbps speed in direct download!!!! The max speed for me is 310 kbps in both aspect(Torrent & Direct Download).

how did you reprogram and where did you get your prl file from ? Is it from BSNL guysIf you could share your knowledge with us ?
