@nishantt6969 How did you get Airtel to enable/configure the bridge mode? I have emailed [email protected] twice with no response in the last 48 hours.
Well, it looks like with the new Dasan (Model Name: H680GM-A) routers, the user is able to configure a bridge port on the router itself. I just deactivated WAN-0 as the PPPoE interfaces and enabled WAN-3 (physical LAN Port 1) on the router as bridge and configured PPPoE on my Mikrotik and it started working.
However, now if I enable WAN-0 again as PPPoE on the Airtel router, PPPoE connection is established but no internet and under services, it shows Internet, Voice, etc all as unticked. Looks like TR-609 has been disconnected.
Not on all routers AFAIK, as it required Airtel to unlock it from their end. For this one there is no such need to contact airtel as the option is already available to the end-user, which is what I mean.
@jay007 just call up 121 and request customer support to have the backend team change the Airtel router into bridge mode. Though you can change it in the router config page it normally does not work until their backend servers are properly configured. The LAN port that is configured for bridge mode may not be functional. Also keep in mind with bridge mode, your connection will have 2 PPPoE connections. One by Airtel's router and the other your own.
@Chip Didn't require a call in my case. Maybe something with this specific router. Just deactivated the WAN Port and set one of the ports to Bridge and setup and connected my router to the bridge port on the ONT. No PPPoE in case of static IP. You just configure the port with a static IP.
Secondly, even with PPPoE on bridge port you wouldn't have 2 PPPoEs, only one. That's the whole reason why you'd bridge.
@jay007 With a PPPOE type of connection in bridge mode, we get 2 alloted ip (ont + bridged router) and both of them allow you the plan bandwidth, suppose you have 100mbps connection then both work @100 mbps.
They have to keep the ONT ip active due to TR069 (i think) and hence a drawback of this method is what I mentioned above.
