you know how annoying it is when you are told that android (and ios and whatever) do not have blackberry messenger.

people do not understand the importance of interoperability. blackberry is the bad guy here because they restrict this platform to their devices. and you defending them makes you their victims.

anyways, was able to tempt her with the super fast camera on the phone. and of course instagram has become a hip app to use for mmm people in her circle. these are the stuff that she has not been able to enjoy on her blackberry. i wonder if she would see the positivity of switching to an open platform with tons of options.

But surely BB users can use other Apps which are available to interact with the other OS guys? Never used BBM - but I wonder what makes it so "happening" :|

well it is hard to get blackberry users to install whatsapp and other apps because their circle primarily consist of blackberry users. and third party apps does not offer the same capabilities (integration wise) that blackberry messenger offers on blackberry devices. i mean, Apple imessage is deeply integrated with ios. google has till now failed to do it with their google+ messenger. and that is the reason why android users still prefer whatsapp over it. samsung had a golden opportunity with chaton app but they failed by now offering it on all platforms on day one. and the app is i believe still not available on the blackberry app world. and the UI is optimized for teens which somewhat does not make older users happy.

Chaton is on BB... I had posted it & you had even replied to it :|But yeah... I can understand people getting so comfortable with a particular platform...I have used a very old BB model & was comfortable using it (no BBM then)... Might consider a BB10 mid-range device, if they can do wonders.. Not for the BBM, but because of the integration with the playbook & also based on other features.

i know chaton is out for blackberry. i am not sure if it is available through the blackberry app world. i think when we were talking about it here on the forum, samsung was offering it through a direct link on their website. they might have release it on the app world now. but at that time, it was definitely not available from there!

ah well. preparing for a crappier display but native android! there is also a plan b that wife does not approve of. get a feature phone for the next couple of months and wait for the next generation android devices. i mean, i do not like one x. that is pretty obvious. Galaxy s iii has turned out to be a disappointment. so i am definitely not getting that. i just have to wait for 5-6 months for jelly bean to arrive with the next nexus. should be possible! spending 25K on galaxy nexus today is a bad deal. the phone would have no resale value by the time next nexus arrives. i mean i cannot find a buyer for my 20 day old one x! i sold nexus s for just 10k recently. it would be a terrible investment considering i would not want to keep it for more than six months.

You are planning to buy a feature phone :| .. Check with Brian if he still has your old Nexus One lying as a spare :D .. Old is Gold :p

You sold phone to... your Wife!? (And she paid money to you from your pocket?) :D

hah. neh. i never actually got fond of the nexus s. it was always a transitional product. hardware upgrade from the nexus one were minimal. it was just a bad purchase considering dual core devices had already started arriving in the market at that time (LG optimus 2x).

i can actually survive just fine with a feature phone. i need some time when i am disconnected from the internet. and with an android smartphone, that is simply not possible. i am sick of being in situations where i am out with someone and both of us are involved on the phone. want to stop doing that. at least on my part.

basically, she would pay for the phone i decide. she knows my affection for android and claims that i would not be able to survive without it for more than a couple of days. so her condition is that i need to buy a smartphone before she takes one x from me.

i am actually tempted to experiment a bit and get one of these phones Nokia lumia 800 or nokia 808 pureview... but my reliance on google powered services ensures that it would not turn out well.
