1st i purchased Huawei E156 (3.6 Mbps) from BSNL, then wanted to upgrade my modem to 7.2 Mbps and so bought a E1750 & E1752.

Then, later i also bought Huawei K4505 & UMG1831 (28.8 & 21 Mbps respectively).

What i observed is K4505 & UMG1831 are heating more than E156, E1750, E1752. Even if i download for 30 min, K4505 & UMG1831 heats up more while E1750 is not that much heated even after 4 or 5 hours of continuous download. Does anyone noticed it? Can any hardware experts here give reasons or solutions?

Awaiting your replies buddies.

I have E1752 and UMG1831 and I also see that UMG1831 is heating up at a much faster rate....not sure if it has anything to do with the high speed capacity chip (21mbps v/s 7.2 mbps)

I wont say tht its excessive heating. But its more heater when compare to 7.2 Mbps and 3.6 Mbps modems.

Im 100% sure buddy. Actually, they introduced Huawei K4505 with 21 Mbps speed only. Later, a firmware upgrade was released to increase the speed to 28.8 Mbps. If you hav upgraded the new firmware, then when you connect to Internet, it wil show 28.8 Mbps connected. For me, in the original box itself was printed as 28.8 Mbps.

Heating of 1831 means it disconnects ? Plz clarify

Buddy, there is no disconnection problem or any other issues. It works great. Im able to download files at 500 Kbps constantly.

Only thing which im fearing is the heat issue. I dunno whether its normal or only for my device. Thats why i started this thread here.

Using UMG1831 from past couple of days, it heats till a certain extent but the temp remains constant and it does not go beyond that. Have been using it non stop last night till morning the temp and the heat is the same. Also have not faced any disconnection issues.

my umg1831 also seems to get hot, but as Dushie said, it stays constant. the datacard that i bought had old firmware ( 11.826.03.01.420 ) , this had disconnection problem, connection used to drop randomly. after i updated the firmware to ( 11.831.05.01.420) that i got from below url, everything was good, no more disconnections.

Thanks for the link. Can I also know the price you bought for the modem K4505 and whether it has any support for external antenna.

Saw one on ebay that is being sold for over 5k, heard that this modem is coming from vodafone UK & SFA, also that the ideal performance is with is original vodafone software and firmware, there are plenty of users still looking to buy this modem and its out of stock with most of the sellers. Well i am using UMG1831 and i am happy with the same, no issues till now and it also has a port to connect external antenna.
