hmm....i even tried utorrent.utorrent also fails the test of whether the port is forwarded correctly or not.and it gave an error in that test too.at first, i had forwarded the utorrent port in both, the adsl modem and the Linksys wifi router.then i removed the port forwards in the adsl modem and only kept them in the wifi router.then i removed them from the wifi router and only kept them in the adsl modem.in each of these scenarios, the test of port forward thru the utorrent speed guide fails.this is really getting ridiculous....i can neither provide telnet access on the same lan to the router and neither can i ever forward ports to this router.there has to be something wrong with this or linksys definitely have to be aware of this prob with the wrt54gc coz i havent read anyone mentioning that they were able to successfully forward ports to this router.do u think reflashing the firmware is worth a try or will it permanently brick my router? EDIT: I bought the wrt54gc v2 linksys router off ebay for 2500 (including all taxes and shipping costs) almost a month back.i just now emailed the seller.maybe he might now the specific prob with this router since he must have sold this to other ppl too.coz im out of ideas...if the modem is turned off, the zonealarm firewall is shutdown but still im unable to access the routers settings thru telnet means something seriously wrong with this router.

yohu, u're missing the point here..the only prob with this router is that u cant telnet into it..which is most probably coz they (Linksys) have not compiled the telnet daemon into the firmware or if complied, its not enabled by default with no option for the user to enable it .

The router is perfectly port forwarding the way it should in the standard setup that should be used..ie ADSL modem - bridge mode ; router pppoe mode

I'll again state that the prob is that u're trying an unconventional setup which is - using the router as a switch with the ADSL modem doing the routing..now the router hasnt been designed for this..and so its not allowing u to turn NAT off..some routers allow it some dont..its ur bad luck that u've bought one which doesnt support this "jugaad" and also cannot be flashed with customised f/w which can give u all the features u want

I dont think the seller would be able to understand or solve the prob..u can try explaining it to linksys coz they might understand that u need telnet to reboot which is essential for the BB plan u've opted for.

reflashing will not help coz the firmware is the same and u would return to the same position even after a reflash

To sum up..there is nothing wrong with router..except no telnet access..u want it to function in a particular way in an unconventional setup which it cannot do coz the firmware is limited..there are many other brands which function in the same manner..and would not allow u to turn NAT off.. so its not only linksys thats the culprit here..which is why it becomes essential to be careful about what u buy..

hmm, now I get the point. So since both, the modem and router r natting, they kinda cause a conflict and prevent port forwarding. So since I cant access/turn off mat on the router, shud I turn it off on the modem? Will the pppoe mode of the modem still work with nat off?

yeah thats the most probable cause of ur problem..with NAT turned off on D-Link..i am not sure if PPPoE wud function properly.. but u can try it out

you were right cyberwiz...as soon as i turned off nat on my modem, i lost the net connectivity.i have spoken to three different tech support agents of Linksys and none of them were able to help me.but one thing was made clear that in wrt54gc there was no way to turn off nat.secondly, one guy said that maybe thru remote management it cud be possible but that feature is to provide acces to this router outside the lan network in my home whereas i want to provide access from within the network itself.we tried it anywayz but to no surprise, it didnt work.they tried out many things like enabling dhcp server on both, the modem and the router and then only on the router.then tried dmz on the router.nothing worked.then i thought that maybe telnet works best with the default ip ie.192.168.1.1so i turned off the adsl modem, shutdown the zonealarm firewall, changed the routers local ip to 192.168.1.1 and then tried access it thru telnet....still the same problem.dunno what in gods name is preventing telnet from access this router.but if im never gonna get telnet access to this router then i will have to disconnect the wifi setup and keep my modem connected directly to the pc, like the old days.and whenever i need to use wifi, i will setup the wifi router with the modem.i will keep the routers and modem settings (in the wifi setup) backed up so that i can set them up quickly and hassle free...cant really think of anythin else right now.:(

@yohu123
1. Can you access this page? for telnet settings?

2. Tell very briefly(!) present position, before selling the router !

7. @cyberwiz: I already have SMC Barricade smc 7004VWBR +Beetel220BXAdsl2+modem
working fine. can access programming pages . no problem.

@essbebe: pls understand that my configuration works fine where net connectivity is concerned.the prob i face with the adsl modem in bridged mode and the wifi router in pppoe mode is that i cant access the wifi router's settings page THROUGH TELNET.i need that access coz that is the only way i can schedule a restart of the modem which is required by MTNL Triband just before 12am and 8am.since i anywayz cant access the adsl modems settings in bridged mode, im left with no access to neither of the devices thereby preventing me to do a scheduled reboot of the MTNL session.so now what i will try is bring the devices back in bridged mode and pppoe mode respectively and try to provide access by enabling dhcp, dmz and remote management.one of these scenarios has to work. :| EDIT: why dont i have net connectivity when the modem is connected to the 1st lan port of the router in bridged mode and the router is connected in pppoe mode while the pc is connected to the 2nd lan port of the router. in this mode, i have access to both the settings page and i can connect to the pc using a pppoe dialer but my wifi is now off. the same setup will work if i connect the modem to the Internet port of the router but then i lose access to the adsl modems settings page. :wall:

Is there a port called Internet ? connect it there.
Vishalrao has given this instruction for similar router.in Bsnl forum
wait let me check the link again

also make sure the ethernet cabel coming out from your modem is going into the correct ethernet port in linksys, it should be the "internet" or input port not one of the output LAN ports numbered 1, 2, 3 or 4

strange, it works for me and i dont need to do additional settings...

can you re-confirm if your modem is really in bridged mode and not stuck in some other mode, save and reboot the modem once more, and connect directly to pc and check modem webpage to make sure?

and also be sure the ethernet cable is connected to correct port on linksys router
