problem solved..Dell is going to send a replacement battery for me..Had to spend 30 mins on phone wid the technical support engineer and finally he decided that faulty battery must be replaced.;)

The battery on my Dell Inspiron lasted a lil under 2 1/2 yrs which seems normal. DVD Writer (NEC ND-6650A) conveniently died shortly after the 1yr warranty expired. Flimsy keyboard keys (backspace key broke off), gaps appearing between the plastic panels housing the LCD, touchpad button jammed, heating issues etc.Remove the battery pack when the laptop is plugged into the mains. High temperatures shorten battery life significantly. Also, clean the vents regulary to prevent dust from clogging them and reducing airflow.

how do you clean the vents of your laptop?I heared something about compressed/ canned air to blow out the dusts from laptop vents, do u use that stuff? I tried for it in Nehru place but couldnt find..I seriously need something to dust the internal parts of my laptop..by now heatsink and fan should be fully clogged.

Seems like there is some serious problem..I was planning to get myself an Dell XPS..Now I need to re-think my decision...:ashamed:

Remove the battery pack when the laptop is plugged into the mains. If charging them is not required.

follow this and it is going to be ok.

laptop batteries are going to die if they are kept on main all the time. mine died.

that's a good idea but what about summers when power cut is a common issue here in Delhi and NCR? anyways I need to take extra care of my new battery now.:cool2:

well i have not taken out the batteries out of the laptop yet. should do that. they still have around 10-15% capacity i think :Pi would have to check if the laptop can work on the home UPS during power cuts and fluctuations.

yeah they should work fine with UPS but it will look wired if one hooks laptop to a UPS..mine faulty battery had 67% capacity.:P..i wonder how you manage with 15 %..whats the backup right now/

10-15 minutes i guess. i dont use it on battery ever since i discovered that it went bad. i just carry the power cable along wherever i go. its not a big hassle. i am not a portable laptop user kind of person. i use it as a desktop 99% of the times. as for the UPS. i was talking about the inverter+ups system that is used as a backup for the entire house.it used to work fine for the desktop i had for around 50% of the times. rest of the times, desktop used to restart due to longer cut-off period. if laptop can manage on that UPS, i can do fine without a battery. just that taking it to the bed for occassional movie watching would require me to shut down the machine and restart it later on.
