Deba: The speed that I have mentioned is true for torrents too. Good ones with tons of seeds.Never ever crosses 420.

Oops. I was checking it in the router page. I have the modem that the Reliance guys gave me, its a InnoMedia Modem, how do I check the downstream rate for it?

Another trick for 1-2 mbps plan users. For the time being just upgrade your plan to 4 mbps. So they will set the downstream rate @ 4096 And then revert back to your original plan after some days.
In my case downstream rate remained same 4096. So I am getting full 2 Mbps.
doing that will rarely work. problem is reliance tech mistake Downstream Data Rate for plan speed.
When infact Downstream Data Rate is line capacity limit setting.
just like how LAN Card shows Speed: 100mbps for example. its a capacity.
10-15% bandwidth will be used for overhead. this is what reliance often fails to take in calculation
hence 10-15% less speed because Data Rate is set same as plan speed. hence no room for overhead.

Hello,
I recently shifted from a 2 mbps plan to a 4 mbps plan. As mentioned by Saber, on speedtest.net I am getting a download speed of 3.5 mbps, and my transfer rate hovers around the 380-420 KBps mark. After speaking to Customer Care, I was told that since I have a router attached to the modem (Im using wifi) , I will get lesser speed than I would without a router. After reading Saber's post, i tried to find out the downstream number. I have a Linksys WRH54G router. But on the admin page, or anywhere else, i cannot find the word Downstream.
Is there any other term that I should look for?
or contact Customer Care directly and ask them to tell me the number?
Your Downstream Data Rate is 4096. should be 8192 really. otherwise you will really keep getting 3.5mbps speed. instead of 4mbps. keep complaining reliance and tell them to increase your Data Rate.
is your router , router only? or is it adsl modem + router?
you should try connect your line to another adsl modem if available and check Data Rate.
Data Rate should show under "ADSL Status" on modem page.
you can ask them to tell you the number. data rate issue is a common problem with reliance.

I think testing isp speed with good torrents is more scientific then http....as many factors are responsible for http speeds.............are you getting the promised speed in torrents ?? kindly confirm.......
testing with http download is better because you almost always get full speed.
on reliance if you get less speed like 105-110KB/s your Data Rate is wrongly set 1024
so rest of the speed is forced to be used for overhead.
Data Rate 1024 minus 10-15% force used for overhead = 850-900kbps download speed for 1mbps plan.
if you got 4mbps plan but data rate is set 1024, you will still get 900kbps.

RCOM is not interested in increasing the downstream line rate. I had this discussion with them months ago. I've learned to live with the 3.5 Mbps speed that I get on the so-called 4 Mbps plan.

iChaitanya is right. Reliance pe to 3.5 mbps mile wahi kaafi hai. I know how badly many fought against this dupers including me even for basic pings and speeds.
I am just happy that I am getting full 2Mbps.

you enter this ip in browser http://192.168.1.1
and look for ADSL Status
check here for more info:
https://broadband.forum/topic/80121-reliance-broadband-plans-heres-the-reality/
Doing that takes me to the router config page. How do I go to the modem config page?

I have a modem and a adsl router both. But evry soon I am going to ditch the modem and go for a new modem + router.

Yes I guess ill be learning to do that soon. If you purely talk about value for money, 250 kBps (2 mbps plan) for 785 rs a month and 420 kBps (4 mbps plan) for 1285 rs a month is almost exactly the same.

That way then I have no complaints at all, the connection is very steady right since September when i shifted from BSNL to Reliance.

Hey I been using the Reliance thunder 2mbps plan for quite sometime and though initially I had speed issues but for now I am getting promised speed. So I was wondering if the 4mbps plan is good enough? What speed can I expect while downloading. I get 200-220 kbps currently.

no service at my area i think.. CUS cr never even called me to confirm if its available or not..
for now im stck with crappy ISp Alliance BB
