Started for Mumbai too. This sucks. Most of the times, the morons are unable to solve any problem.

same in Bangalore - i use postpaid & paying such hefty price for their service and especially their GPRS service and now we also have the to pay for customer care ! - but i don't care much because in my 5+ yrs of having their service i might have called 10-12 times mostly because of change in plans or their own created issues(they activated the default vodafone tone & were charging Rs.30 or something for long but i came to realize it only after a long time but they refunded only some 6 months or so because they keep billing records only for that long or something).

Bottom line - I'm starting to hate vodafone & waiting for mobile number portability to be launched in India.

But i also heard that some people just call Customer care for fun /time pass from someone who worked in one of those Airtel/Hutch call centers in Bangalore - maybe this is the reason they had to charge and thus hampering the genuine customers

How is it possible for Vodafone to provide/advertise 3G when it is not available?BTW once last week while travelling to Mumbai, my Vodafone showed 3G in signal display on my Nokia N95, it just displayed once, but I was quite surprised to see 3G on my mobile. Could it be some testing by Vodafone or some error in my mobile to display 3G?Also Tikona broadband advertise 4G based service broadband service?

2yrs back I had once seen 3G in vodafone in Nagpur. i dont think vodafone was even testing it that time. it seems that it must be some technical thing which made mobile to think 3g signal is available, so it showed 3G.

It could be most probably technical glitch by my handset to display 3G. Lets hope soon we could see 3G without any mistake :)About advert, may be Vodafone is just preparing ground, as they are almost certain to get 3G license along with other operators.

4G is a catch-phrase by Tikona: they're kind of standing up and saying "3G... bah! We have 4G!" Although it kind of is a half-truth: Mobile WiMax is one of the leading contenders (opposite 3GPP2) to become what will be known as the 4G standard, and last I checked, said service is WiMax. Not very mobile though, so... still a misnomer.

3G-capable Nokia handsets sometimes have a tendency to display "3G" with no bars when switching between base stations. It was not an error on the part of either Vodafone or Nokia. You have, in fact, no signal at all and the phone was merely searching for a new network to connect to.

Shouldn't some one report this to the authorities that VF is misleading Users by FALSE ADVERTISEMENT via their very own website?

They don't tend to re-write users guide for each individual market. The modem itself is 3G capable, probably up to 3.1mbit/s, but the network is not (well more accurately, I would say that many of the base-stations in urban areas are now either 3G-capable or being retrofitted as such in anticipation of a license being granted to them and when that does happen, they will already be ready to roll-out service).

Had they advertised and tried to sell you a 3G package on Vodafone.in and taken money for it without actually having the license or facility to provide said service - and it turned out that it was only a GPRS service - then that would be false advertising.
