yes of course i understand that the image quality is ultimately dependent on the data transmission rate also
Unfortunately, enough data transmission rate is a must to get a certain audio/video quality, and all DTH vendors have to squeeze it in order to provide hundreds of channels available!
Are you sure about this? Based on reviews (especially by @design
), I find it hard to believe! That should be far (behind!) from true DVD quality I believe.
Well, I believe it now after personally seeing big tv demo. I visited 4 reliance world centers out of which one didn't have any demo, one had a very bad TV (even blue background would have thick lines/waves!) while rest two had properly working demo setups. It was a disappointment to know that picture quality is not at all close to DVD (someone said it is close to HD in another thread
). Audio/Video quality looked similar to what I saw with BSNL IPTV (good channels), however, the quality is fairly uniform across channels with bit tv but in IPTV it differed a lot. Looks like with mpeg4, scenes where there are no continuously varying shades in the image (like cartoons, scrolling texts as opposed to human face for example), it looks excellent. But instead of smooth shades in a face, it displays it in "steps". Wherever image has too much of fine details, it makes it kind of "hazy" or "washed out". Also, scenes which are not varying rapidly look quite clean. Fast moving scenes on the other hand show random pixels/lack of details. Wasn't really able to judge sound quality since they didn't have good speakers, only puny LCD speakers for the demo that too in somewhat noisy environment!
All that said, BIG TV is still the best bet in my opinion today in terms of audio/video quality (in addition to number of channels, pricing etc.). Definitely better than DishTV/Tata Sky! So, I think I should get a connection and enjoy it until something better comes up:thumbsup:. Well, I think we will have to wait for some action in HD, then they will show it at lowest possible bit rate which will hopefully be at least equal to or greater that pure DVD quality:wall::rofl:
