yes of course i understand that the image quality is ultimately dependent on the data transmission rate also
Unfortunately, enough data transmission rate is a must to get a certain audio/video quality, and all DTH vendors have to squeeze it in order to provide hundreds of channels available!

Are you sure about this? Based on reviews (especially by @design :)), I find it hard to believe! That should be far (behind!) from true DVD quality I believe.

Well, I believe it now after personally seeing big tv demo. I visited 4 reliance world centers out of which one didn't have any demo, one had a very bad TV (even blue background would have thick lines/waves!) while rest two had properly working demo setups. It was a disappointment to know that picture quality is not at all close to DVD (someone said it is close to HD in another thread:confused:). Audio/Video quality looked similar to what I saw with BSNL IPTV (good channels), however, the quality is fairly uniform across channels with bit tv but in IPTV it differed a lot. Looks like with mpeg4, scenes where there are no continuously varying shades in the image (like cartoons, scrolling texts as opposed to human face for example), it looks excellent. But instead of smooth shades in a face, it displays it in "steps". Wherever image has too much of fine details, it makes it kind of "hazy" or "washed out". Also, scenes which are not varying rapidly look quite clean. Fast moving scenes on the other hand show random pixels/lack of details. Wasn't really able to judge sound quality since they didn't have good speakers, only puny LCD speakers for the demo that too in somewhat noisy environment!

All that said, BIG TV is still the best bet in my opinion today in terms of audio/video quality (in addition to number of channels, pricing etc.). Definitely better than DishTV/Tata Sky! So, I think I should get a connection and enjoy it until something better comes up:thumbsup:. Well, I think we will have to wait for some action in HD, then they will show it at lowest possible bit rate which will hopefully be at least equal to or greater that pure DVD quality:wall::rofl:

That problem just happened. I said previously that we feel the HD quality and that time in the initial stage, i could never feel such pixellation issue! at the age group of 30, we feel we are 60 and our eyes become weaker!!:rofl:Doesnt matter how quality of TS and Dish - lets not compare MPEG4 with MPEG2 and thus what we only expect is just and just a TRUE DVD QUALITY (as advertised). If we pay full money, we must get to watch worth paying them.If we see the same channel on cablewala's channels then we would never face such issue as they are using bigger dishes. By the way, why cant we use that dish? (Too expensive? is that a reason?)

I have always wondered about the quality of "feeds" that channel owners provide broadcasters with. I had asked this before also, but there was no response. It is not clear whether quality that we finally get is bad because of bandwidth/compression limitation of DTH/IPTV etc or the feed quality itself is that bad. The reason is that, in case of say DishTV, bad quality may be due to bandwidth crunch, but why isn't BSNL IPTV's quality close to DVD? Many a times I have seen that picture is best on normal cable itself, but then I have also seen "digital" audio/video artifacts on cable as well, which I am sure because of their feed not because of cable issues as such. For that matter I have also seen channels on cable for which they take the "feed" from DishTV DTH connection:rofl:

If you want the dth service provider to show banners - regret loss of transmission - poor audio/video quality - lost sound/picture - source feed is of poor quality - solar flares - rain drops of critical size - well, this can be done, but the whole screen will be filled with such diagnostic messages.

Couldn't rsist. In early days of CAD, we used two monitors - one to enter text commands and see messages and the second for design and graphics. May be we should go back to those days.

@tech_enthu,You probably didn't get the point, who is asking for alert messages for things like solar flare and rains?? I know these are temporary and occasional problems which will mostly freeze the picture or completely block reception. What I am trying to find out is- what is the maximum possible quality in absence of such problems (that is- under normal conditions) and where are the bottle necks in terms of quality. If the feed itself is not so good, then DTH guys can't do anything. Garbage in, garbage out!

Everything is almost back to normal... picture quality is excellent again and now menu is not slowing down, STB is not hanging up - i guess, they havent done any software upgradation since a week after they might have fixed their problems. The only thing needed to be done on urgent basis is to add new/more channels! Thats it... rest all is BIG :) yooooo hoooooooo

Nah!That ugly logo :hysterical::hysterical:By the way who change the smiles here :@Some good one left from Quick reply.

agree that picture quality as improved,i would be happy if they improve it by another 10 to 20%.
but the slow menus ,channel is still there.

Few things are not gonna be changed. I too wish the same that they should improve picture quality by 20-30% still but what they are giving is also worth to watch and if they do, its the best move and if not, we are still happy. Yeh, slow menu is still there but hope that gets sorted out soon!

Everything is stable since last few days and no software updates as well... Seems like they got alerted due to high complaint ratio and might have stopped all updates in the beginning phase of commercial launch so that they dont lose their 1st impression and can get mouth publicity!!!
