ok.. so i tried out the 2 options given by you... set tcp/ip manually.. still same problem.then reset
adsl modem, reset
router, restarted pc, setup router again, again restarted all, still no luck! same thing as before..so in all, this is current status:all connection is properrouter is able to connect to isp and get ip and dnsgtalk connects successfully and opens gmail account seamlesslytorrents can be downloaded at healthy rateapart from this, no other websites or services are operational.. eg download of virus def. by antivirus etc..and yea, direct wired connection works seamlessly, infact, that is how i m posting this message now!!Also,
windows firewall is disabled. no other specific s/w firewall installed. No doubt on browser settings too.. IE and firefox, both on lap and pc dont work!
n95 detects wifi and connects succesfully... even loads mobile (wap) sites, but no html or other apps requiring net (eg
Nokia maps) dont load any data. This again shows that problem is somewhere in router and not browser or lap or pc... my guess..

Thing is, data comes in from telephone line > adsl modem >
Netgear but only some (gtalk etc) is directed to connecting device. Something in the router is holding it back.. like a firewall does.. or a popup blocker!Whatever this is, is something related to router.
Dns is also fine..something is preventing router from displaying web pages... now we need to find out that something...

when i type in webpage name, it shows quickly like looking for website, connecting, transferring data, waiting.. and then nothing...

this needs to be cured.bit long... but explains everything i guess..also one more query, now that 192.168.1.1 accesses router, previously it used to access bsnl modem. can this be reason? Also, is it that router takes control over bsnl modem? whwn router is connected, can i still access my bsnl modem or is it hidden behind the router? sorry.. m a layman in these things!

Thanks..
