yeah a common man has a broadband connection. he also is a member of a broadband forum on the web. and he discusses a
tablet PC from
Apple on that forum. and he needs his dose of
music and movies which are downloaded from the web. right. i trust you. i can compare your requirements to my dad's requirement who is consider a common man when it comes to computing.

alright. let me clear another point here.
i am not a fan of
apple ipad. not because of the hardware limitations but because of the software limitations. apple has locked the device way too much.
a better device would be loaded with an open platform (
google android) comes to mind. software store would be open to any (Safe) application. you would have access to the storage space on the device. you would be able to install the apps of your choice. you would be be able to do most of the stuff that is possible on a regular machine.
the difference would largely be...
the operating system would not be as vulnerable as
Windows (or even Linux).
application installs would be from an online store. rather than search for apps then downloading it and then installing it.
updates would be delivered automatically from a centralized location.
since the platform is relatively locked. it would be much safer than a regular computer (malware issues are almost negligible).
a linux based netbook is a comparable solution here. but it still does not compare to the convinience of a simpler platform like android.
funny enough... people are huge fans of apple products like iPad and
iPhone... but they are not 'open' enough to embrace Linux just because it does not run their 'Windows'Apps.
