TS should have changed to mpeg4 STBs two years ago; then most of the customers will be ready for mpg4 changeover. Then only 1 million stbs are to replaced and not 4 million!

^ Completed not as in 100% but somewhere around the mid 90s. Capacity is a definite issue on Tata Sky. If you have noticed, the total number of channels they have carried has always hovered around the 160 - 170 mark. I am not counting Actve and Showcase. Days before they add a new channel, a few others go missing. If they really didn't have capacity issues, they wouldn't be doing that. Also, I remember reading earlier that Tata Sky has bought capacity in INSAT, and there is a limit to what one can buy in that, which prevents these guys from upgrading. Dish TV on the other hand, has bought this abroad, and has lots of capacity pending.

as a Tata Sky DTH customer we should not recommend Tata Sky DTH to anyone and show them the power of customers

I have been doing that faithfully for more than a year now. I don't them tell not to buy. I just narrate my experience - which is horrible to say the least - and they make their decisions :D

Not totally correct. Tata Sky DTH wants specific customers.
Tata Sky would be focussing on providing value for money for customers who were either at the top or the middle of the pyramid.

In other words, they are looking for people who would want to have a Tata Sky connection as a 'status symbol', and not as a DTH provider airing various channels. This reminds me, I need to shoot a mail asking them which part of the pyramid I belong to.

In the second week of this month I was in Chennai. In the building I stayed, two TS new connections were installed. One was in the flat of a 70+ couple whose viewing pattern is 80:20 (tamil popular channels:english news). The second connection was in the flat of an early 30s, working couple with two kids. Both connections were from different dealers. The old couple were advised by the dealer to take TS for the excellent service provided and for the excellent quality of pictures. The young couple with a nuclear family chose TS with mega pack after evaluating others for the variety of fare provided.

Hmm...Still there are many unknown and hidden fact on Tata Sky which easily cheat the people to get their connection. And a wonder is... many speak about the tatasky service...when i had a relocation request, i asked the engineer to get the cable wires via the Junction box from terrace to my home so that i can avoid drilling my windows to get the wires inside..He was saying.. for that 500 RS extra will be charged !!!

I would attribute that to two factors:

1) Higher commission for the dealers selling Tata Sky
2) Lack of awareness of the painful experience avid TV watchers have to go through. Like I had said earlier, people who don't watch TV wouldn't face any problems with Tata Sky.

And a wonder is... many speak about the tatasky service...when i had a relocation request, i asked the engineer to get the cable wires via the Junction box from terrace to my home so that i can avoid drilling my windows to get the wires inside..

Indians by nature are 'santusht' with whatever they get. Tata Sky has customer service, but the point is, what is the utility of that customer service? Whenever I ask them some information, the response I get is "We cannot commit on anything", "We will do our best to see that this is addressed, but I cannot confirm or deny anything", "We are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing, but at this point of time, we cannot do anything". Honestly, such a customer care makes no difference. Also, how many know that Tata Sky is the only DTH which gives non Toll Free numbers as customer care. There is one toll free number, but that is written in small font in one page in a remote corner of the web site.

that is the problem with Tata Sky. they cannot take back the mpeg2 boxes as they would become worthless for them. the company cannot just switch to mpeg4 platform because they cannot force every customer to pay even a small fee for exchanging the STB.the only solution is to offer a replacement at their own costs. 4-5 million STBs... shitload of garbage.

How many STB's would need replacing then?Plus, how much will it cost for Tata Sky to switch to Mpeg4 without the STB's cost?

They need to work out weather they want to move to MPEG4 technology or they need to render more TP's to have many channels with MPEG2...May be the option 2 would be better choice like DISH TV did...In their view.. who is the premium customer... 1. People who opted for the annual packs2. People who do not call customer care3. People who calls them for Engineer visit, so they can charge 3504. People who relocate often5. People Who orders showcase often6. People who uses Active Mall etc regularlyBut i wonder what premium service is being offered by Tata Sky to say they are focusing on premium customers..1. They do not have any good foreign channels like Fox, WB etc..2. They do not have any adult channels We can point out many like this...
