what i need to know is... if i am 3G subscriber.. but in some region i get 2G only... then i shud be charged at lower rates instead of charging at 3G rates. there shud be compensation.

good question... i compare this with mtnl ... mtnl has no answer for this... they are in 3g business for last 2 years...you recharge for 2g and get 3g speeds is what is happening with them till date.

MTNL has enabled 3G for all subscribers now. that is why u get 3G for 2G rates.charges remain 1Re/MB

yes 1rupee per mbbut if u recharge on 2g u get say 1gb free and can use that 1gb on 3g networkofficial 3G rates of mtnl are like Rs. 99 for 130MB and Rs. 749 for like 2GBofficial 2G rates of mtnl are like Rs. 98 for 1GBbut you can easily use 2G coupon on 3G speeds !

Okay guys, I am not talking about the quality of Vodafone 3G. I used in the trial period, but even though no 3G is enabled yet in my home area (Borivali), I get good reception in my office (Worli). And I really loved the 3G. My point is that in US, people who have 3G automatically get switched to EDGE when they are not in a 3G coverage area. This makes logical sense. But what the customer care rep told me makes no sense whatsoever. If I am driving through some rural area then it means even though there is EDGE available I cant connect to that. That would be kind of weird...

yes mate that's so annoying..even i cant see 3g in Borivali

@drumster: gopichandpai is correct. When I go out of a 3G area, and only 2G is there with my phone set to dual mode, I get 2G speeds and network, but the data gets deducted from my 3G account balance. This is normal, even abroad. The plan is that there will be 3G coverage everywhere, soon, so it shouldn't be a problem, only in rural areas or where 3G signals are weak. But yes the employees are ignorant. I went to the Vodafone store yesterday to recharge, and then asked for the roaming charges of 3G, and then she said "3G is not yet launched here"! And I had used 3G just before stepping into the store outside! For some reason there was no 3G inside so I couldn't show her, but she kept on insisting that even if I got the activated SMS, there are no 3G signals here. Very pissing off!Does anyone know the roaming charges? I'm leaving the state tomorrow and I would like to know if it works like GPRS on the Vodafone network -- no extra charges for data roaming.. That is also the case with Idea..Also, I'm getting only 0.5 megabits on speedtest.net. Maybe coz I was tethered through Bluetooth? I duno? I got 920kbit on my phone. But this is still slow, I should be getting 3-4mbit..

Roaming charges - there is no such thing for data/browsing (as far as i know)0.5 Mbps - this might be because of bluetooth limitations !
