Hello everyone,

I have recently joined this forum as I am being plagued by a problem since past 2-3 weeks which i had never encountered before.

I am a BSNL broadband user with a 4mbps plan. I am a casual online gamer who mostly plays games such as battlefield 4 on Singapore and Malaysian servers.

Earlier i used to get a ping of around 80-90 ms on these servers but since 2 to 3 weeks i am getting insanely high pings. Mostly in the range of 280-320. I went to speedtest.net to check my internet connection and tested my broadband connection on 4-5 different singapore servers. Out of the five singapore servers only one server (sponsored by telin) seems to give a good ping somewhat around 90. Rest 4 have the same insanely high ping around 300. My download and upload speeds are same as before on all the servers of Singapore. But the the ping varies dramatically with different servers. Also i am not running any background programs which might use up my internet bandwidth. My ip address is 117.198.xx.xx.

I also tried using tracert to trace the route to the specific singapore servers but from second hop onwards to the thirtieth hop it just says request timed out. Only the first hop shows a 1ms delay. That's it. So I am not able to see the route taken to the respective server. I have disabled all the firewalls but i am still getting the same results with tracert.

I tried contacting BSNL customer care in my state (jharkhand), but it seems those fools dont even know what "ping" is? They keep referring me to some other person. I have already tried restarting my router a couple of times in the hope that my ip gets reset and i get a new one but to no benefit. I wonder what might have caused this type of a problem with my connection.

I would really appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks.

I had read your thread before starting this topic. And that is why i mentioned my ip address. Your thread was helpful. But it didnt answer my question. Why are we getting so high pings to singapore when earlier we used to get around 80ms? What is the problem and how long will this ping issue last? If someone has any info regarding this matter then please share.

I had found one probable cause of this matter on the internet. On 15th sept, 2014 the AAG cable connecting south east asia with North america had snapped resulting in very low speeds and high latency in countries such as malaysia, singapore, taiwan, guam, philippines etc. for atleast 20 days. The issue was recently solved and the internet speeds were restored by 5th october. You can google it and read the whole story yourself. Now the question is , if due to the failure of AAG cable, BSNL users across india are getting high latencies to SG servers, then why still (10th october) we are getting high latencies when this issue had been already solved in those countries 5-6 days back. Why the routing is still taking place via hong kong? Why cant BSNL connect directly to SG servers through chennai? These are my questions. I would have gone to BSNL itself and asked these questions but it is no secret the state in which it is. Workers there dont even seem to know what "ping" means and are so oblivious to the whole situation. I would have changed my isp a long time back if i had any better options in my city. But alas, we will be at their mercy for a long time to come.

Well , Maybe BSNL forget to change routing to previous state?
I've no idea how this routing works exactly, but i managed to solve my problem. Your route to particular destination might have been changed, permanently.

Here is what i did to fix my issue.
Download surfeasy VPN (signup for free account)
They have 3 ip ranges ,starts from 119.xx.xx.xx , 49.xx.xx.xx ,107.xx.xx.xx which will be choosen automatically by client.

Note down your ip gateway from router.
Start surfeasy and write down ip range it connects with.

Ping your desired destination.
Try all 3 ip ranges from surfeasy VPN,If your ping goes lower, hurray if not proceed with rebooting the router to get new gateway. Repeat
Also try to obtain older 59.xx.xx.xx ,give it a spin.
This a just a temporary solution, might be frustrating to do everytime. May not work at all for you! It's better than nothing.

Thanks for the reply man!!! Would surely try this out and let you know. By the way are you still getting high ping without the VPN?

Hey, i tried surfeasy VPN just now and it works great. My ping to singapore servers was between 250-300 but now it has come down to 110-120, which is just awesome. Thank You for giving me the info. But for a free account they give only 600mb/ month of usage data. Not sure if it would be enough for gaming. Also i tried flyvpn before this. It is the vpn which gamers mostly use i think. As a free memberyou can connect it for only 20 mins and that too only 3 times a day at the max.

Hey! Glad to hear that you solved it!

As for bandwidth limitation on Surfeasy, just create a new account.
I've 3 accounts which give me 925mb * 3 = 2775mb. Which is enough for me! Most games consume less than 256kbps bandwidth. Which translates to 25hours of gaming with all 3 accounts for me!
Battlefield 4 however might consume in excess of 1mbps.

Happy gaming.

mine is
Progression - DarshanRao - Battlelog / Battlefield 4

i get 60-70pings to singapore servers and 170-190 pings to german servers in BF4 in airtel

I am also getting 300-350 ping to Singapore servers. ISP: BSNL, Location: Nagpur, IN.
I have tried free DNS like google (pri 8.8.8.8 , alt 8.8.4.4) but of no use.
@icemanDG have u resolved ur issue?? Is Surfeasy practical for games like CS:GO?

P.S. I have verified with friends and this problem is only with BSNL, Airtel, cable internet people are enjoying 70-90 pings on the same servers where I am getting 310!!
