but the 4k price is available to everyone right? even if it is an introductory pricing. :) what did you get as a premium customer?

@kb10000 Which box were you using before this and wht cable?

I was on the regular PVR ... some fancy component cables. YPbPr

@venkat_9099 Same recording thing happened to me, the field engineer told me to physically disconnect the power and plug it back on. It started working after that.

Had it installed.
I had Tata Sky Plus earlier and when the engineer inserted two wires from dish, software did not install. They took one wire and split it into two and software got downloaded. It took them one hour to figure them.
I tried recording, but recording did not happen giving conditional error.

It may start working after an hour or so. They have to enable the "TS+ Usage Fee" in the system (You will get an alert). It just so happened that I tried it out only after I got this alert - and recording worked without a hitch.

Considering their regular HD Set top box is 2599/- , the HD PVR for just 1400 more is brilliant pricing!

OK.. More observations... (in comparison with the regular SD PVR)

1. IT boots up much faster than the regular PVR.
2. Lesser lag while switching the channels.
3. Banner transitions are good!
4. Banners themselves contain a lot more detail/information
5. You can store more than 20 channels in "Favourites" Though the book says 20 I have already gone upto 25 .. not tried to find out how much more it'll take!
6. Better Menu/UI on the whole
7. Better Remote - though largely identical, its more ergonomic.

Ok. The latest for my booking in delhi is that the boxes are being couriered from the bangalore HQ, and installation will be done after they receive it. Which could be today or tomorrow.

I got my box installed yesterday. I had a Tata Sky+ box earlier and now upgraded to the HD PVR. Here are some observations -The box looks very beautiful. The UI is completely different although it looks very nice and has got improved functionality as well. It probably has got a faster processor so the responsiveness is pretty good and it's snappy to use.Overall I think this box is priced very attractively. I don't think Tata Sky is making great margins at this price considering that the unit has got a 500GB hard disk and has got a nice design and is constructed pretty well. I think it's a steal at Rs. 4k. Functionality -There are 3 Video outputs - HDMI, component, composite3 separate audio outputs - 2 channel analog audio(Red/White), Digital Coax, and Optical Out. Of course audio is carried in HDMI as well.Quality of video output from component and composite is not as good as that output by the non-HD Tata Sky+ PVR. Well, once wouldn't need the analog outs when HDMI is available, however I just wanted to make this observation. You can toggle the output resolution between 576i, 576p, 720p, and 1080i. When watching SD channels (which is everything except 4) you have the option to stretch it to 16:9 or go for the pillar mode which is black bands on the sides. If you choose the pillar mode, you will see that there is a lot more picture visible than if you used the analog output both in this box and the older set top boxes. Basically when you used composite/component out the sides of the picture are slightly chopped. However with HDMI out and the display output for SD set to pillar mode, this chopping doesn't occur and a lot more of the picture is visible. And this is a good thing.I don't have a HT setup, so I can't comment on the surround sound. In sum, I think this is a must buy for Tata Sky subscribers.
