Experiencing super slow download speeds.

I have contacted the technician and it seems that on their end there is no issue (atleast to my knowledge). The download speeds are fluctuating like crazy. Sometimes it goes up to 150 Mbps (I’m on 150 Mbps) without any issues, but at worst it drops as low as 5 Mbps. I tried resetting the ONT (bridge ON) and my TP-Link router (runs on OpenWRT), but nothing fixes the issue. On the other hand, the upload speeds are fine. I’m getting anywhere around 100-150 Mbps. It would be nice if you guys could give me some feasible solution to this specific issue.

is this on wifi or wired connection?

Hello There,
As i can see your issue is regarding download speed drop, Can you check whether this happen on Wireless Device (using Wi-Fi) or not because sometimes Wired (Ethernet Port 1 or 2 ) can face this kind of issue due to Modem issues (common to occur if Modem is older than 3 years).
If the download speed issue is there on Wireless Device too? Try to login into your Modem through 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and configure your DNS (Use BSNL DNS or Cloudflare DNS or Google DNS) and try to see if issues still come. If the issue still occur after these resolutions? It can be ISP side issue by not able to connecting to External Server properly or Other (3rd-party server) can be facing some issues with internet traffic.

Thanks for the reply, dude. During midnight, like around 12-1 AM, I'm getting a solid 150 Mbps for both download and upload speed, but during the daytime, the download speeds are absurdly slow. Upload speeds are fine. Also, the ping response is higher. Also, I checked the Rx power during the daytime, it was hovering around -25 dBm, and during midnight, it was around -22 - 23 dBm. I don't know if there is an issue with my optic cable.

Are you sure no other clients in your network are consuming bandwidth when you experience low speeds? Try disable Wifi on your router if you can and then test your wired computer, of course no other wired connections should be there.

@udhayanithi_g there are 2 possibility remains in your situation.
1. Your Internet Wi-Fi password is either leaked and they are trying to use whole bandwidch which make you get less Download speed. Most people on daily usage don't even use that much Upload Speed (barely anyone use it except streamer or conference things). In this case, Try to connect your Router with Ethernet to Desktop/Laptop application and change your internet Wi-Fi Password, after that, Go for a speed test at any preferred website/app. you want. If you think speed is stable now? Through ethernet? It can be Band Issue (hardware basically) or someone else is using your internet without your notice.
2. Your ISP doesn't have that much Bandwidth left at day time due to large amount of people connected to 1 server which make less Download speed remaining for your usage. In this case, Contact your ISP and get it clarify either by visiting there nearby center or using Customer Executive support provided by ISP or Toll Free Number.

@Protector I’m 100% sure that nobody is using my Wi-Fi network. I change my Wi-Fi password from time to time. And most of the time, I disable the WLAN interface. I mainly use only the ethernet port to get the internet. To double verify, I reset my whole router and disabled the WLAN interfaces, but the download speeds are still absurdly slower.

I think the point you are mentioning in the second paragraph could be the reason. Because after 10 PM, the speed gradually increases to 150 Mbps (Download). But during the daytime, the download speed takes a huge hit. On the other hand, the upload speeds are fine and solid. I also noticed one more thing. During the daytime, there are huge packet losses and higher jitter and latency. And again, when the time hits 10 PM, everything will be just fine no packet losses, low ping.

You should ask the LCO to fix the optical power issue. That might fix the issue somewhat. There is also a slight chance of overprovisioning connections from the OLT.
