I think India should play the youngsters especially against a very mediocre NZ side. Maybe play Laxman and Sachin against England? Right time to test the strength of the bench which is going to be the future.

The names that makes one take noticeTest squad: Raina - Comeback? Has he done enough to warrant it? Would be interesting to see if he is picked ahead of Rahane & Pujara in the Tests.Ishant - Is he fit? If yes, he has not been up to the mark. And coming directly from injury may not help him.Chawla - Can someone tell me is he has been fantastic in domestic cricket to justify this? Or, is he there just because he is a leggie?T20/World Cup:Yuvraj - We know he is a good player, but is he fit?Rohit - Specialist Fielder? As nothing else seems to be fitting his role of late.Chawla - World cup specialist? Again, out of the blue, is in the team for the world cup.Harbhajan - Has been out of form, even in domestic. Maybe they hope Ashwin/Harbhajan can do well as a duoBalaji - Not surprised, if you see my posts before, I felt he is in the radar. Having worked & impressed under Gambhir, felt he may get a pushTiwary - Not played T20 much, but his recent form justifies his selection

OK I didn't check the squad, but Chawla reminds me of Piyush Chawla. Don't tell me he is back. If so, he has to be our World Cup / Series specialist

Precisely, he last played for India in the ODI World Cup. He made a comeback after a while in that squad as well & he does the same now.

Yuvraj Singh's comeback is not the inexplicable one. On surface it might seem like an emotional move, considering he has not proved match fitness yet, but this is also a calculated risk. Before the World Twenty20, there are two T20s against New Zealand, and before that there is the Buchi Babu tournament. So if things don't go to plan, Yuvraj can be replaced for the big one, but if he is fit there is no need to restate the kind of matchwinner he can be on the big day.

It's the other picks that leave you flummoxed. What, for example, has Piyush Chawla done to earn both a Test and T20 recall? Is there any phantom tournament you have missed and only the selectors have watched? An average of 40 in the last Ranji Trophy, and an average of 26 and economy-rate of 7.35 in the last IPL, didn't exactly dare the selectors to not pick him. He wasn't even considered good enough for India A's last tour.

It's interesting to look at the two spinners who have been pushed out because of Chawla's return. It seems there is more than cricket to the sudden exclusion of Rahul Sharma from both the Test and T20 side. Last checked his bounce and accuracy had everybody impressed. Now he is nowhere to be seen. If this is disciplinary action for the alleged positive dope test at a party, the BCCI will be better off to say so.

The last time Chawla was picked for India, Rohit Sharma was primed for a place in the World Cup squad and had to make way. Rohit doesn't lose out on his World Cup place this time, but he has been denied the Test bench he warmed with such frustration in Australia, coming desperately close to a debut. Granted he has failed in ODIs in Sri Lanka, but how does it earn him a T20 reward and cost him a Test place? Suresh Raina, on the other hand, has played his role in late middle order in ODIs commendably, but has he done enough since he was dropped from Tests last year to allay the concerns against Raina the Test batsman?

Well, this leads to believe that this is what could have happened -

Srikkanth : Dekho Bhai , Yeh Hamara Aakhri Team selection hai, is liye, sab selector ko teen-teen aadmi ko chunne ko mangta
Selector2 : Arre teen kaisa ji, is mein to Sachin, Zaheer, Dhoni ka name to pehle se aa jayega
Srikkanth : Tum correct bolta, pahile hum saare default selection choose karenga, phir baaki ke logo equally Test & T20 mein choose karaenga

And them, each zone would have picked 2-3 of his favourite cricketers for the slots made available to him from his Test & T20 teams.

it would have been good if sachin had opted for "Rest" for this inconsequential test series, considering the amount of work he will have to do in the monsoon session of parliament.

He would score 2 centuries against and the media & others would say...wow he is not getting old....he is getting better and better....still has got the passion towards cricket like a school boy...

Im happy Yuvraj is back but im feeling sorry also for him because if he fails to fire then the indian media will make a mockery out of him and the selectors.. I think Yuvraj should have targetted his return only in 2013 and not so fast ...

When we can take Rohit, why not Yuvraj? Anyway, he should be playing in Buch Babu tournament and T20 vs the kiwis. If he is fit, he will justify selection, if not, they will replace him.

They cant replace him as hes been announced in the 15 man squad, replacement can only happen if someone gets injured .. anyhow yuvraj is a matchwinner only drawback will be that he will be recovering from that deadly disease + lack of match practice .. anyhow yuvraj is a winner so maybe he will find form right away .. hoping for the best ...
