Hi, I have MTNL Broadband at Mumbai.

Some days everything works fine.
One or two days a week, I will totally lose connectivity & then it will come back after 5 minutes, work for a few minutes & again lose connectivity.

I checked the Modem Status page when I lose connectivity, this is what I see - http://img21.imageshack.us/i/erri.png/http://img21.imageshack.us/i/erri.png/

(Note, that I have cropped the screenshot (there is a list of other NA PVC's below this)

i.e. My ipaddress, subnet & gateway become 0.0.0.0.

After a few minutes, they get really addresses.

When I check the log, these are 2 kinds of error messages I see (sometimes the first one, sometimes the second one).

Any idea what's going wrong?

You are being disconnected at regular intervals, What that means is connection is not stable, Ask your area lineman to check the line for any fault

How do I contact the local lineman? Is it by contacting the exchange?

Yup, post a complaint with your local exchange and get the line checked. Tell them that you are being disconnected regularly whenever you download something, it stops in middeway

I was also facing same problem and lineman came and changed the whole wire from pole junction to my home and now its working all fine

Yup, even in his case, the problem would be the same

I posted a complaint. The MTNL lineman & other guys came. But obviously the problem didn't happen when he was there. He tweaked some settings in the modem & said that the problem won't happen now. But problem started again next day. Again posted a complaint. Again the guy came. He then reset the modem to factory settings & said problem won't happen again. Again problem started again. What option do I have now other than terminating the MTNL connection & going with a different vendor.

recently MTNL changed upload sync speed for all to 1mbps. Contact MTNL ask them to reduce ur upload SYNC speed to 512 if that doesnt work ask them to make it further down to 256kbps. this shud eliiminate frequent disconnections. ask abt upload speed reduction only and not download.

SNR going below 9-10 wud cause problem when there is disturbance. My upload SNR is 8-10 (after upgrade to 1mbps)...few days back there were disconnections.. but has not somehow happened after that.
