Suggest a suitable wifi router

Yes, Modem+Routers can only work with DSL connections. Regarding FTTH, I have no idea whether normal standalone routers work with them or not. Combo devices certainly do not. Regarding USB, you can set up a printer that can then be used over the network or share a HDD over the network.Suggestion would depend upon whether you want a standalone or not.

Well, technically FTTH should replace DSL. How soon ? I've no idea, all depends on who rolls out ftth at your place and when. FTTH works via ofc. The ofc terminates into a ONT (much like a modem that we have for DSL), a lan wire from the ont can be inserted into any standalone router, and you're good to go.ofc - Optical fiber cableont - Optical Network Terminal

@OP - If you buy one with USB, you can install dd wrt and setup transmission so that you can download torrents on the external drive connected to it, without your PC being turned on. In fact, IINM the Asus supports it by default. So if its something you'd be interested in, getting a USB one makes sense. Otherwise the Buffalo one x720 suggested is also decent enough. But check the specs, there are two version of HP-G300, v1 had the same chipset and RAM as the Asus N13U. Version 2 had a better Atheros chip. if its v1, doesn't make sense to buy it over the Asus one.
