Hello, after experimenting for years. I have got a working BSNL Bridge Mode configuration with IPv6.
Devices I use/recommend:
1. ONT- Digisol GR6011 or Netlink HG322G or any similar rebranded model. (These are TEC Certified, has a newer Realtek Chipset, has no trash tier WiFi, it just has a Gigabit and VoIP port, and is quite small)
2. Router- Deco XE75 (This is unfortunately what I have, I would rather recommend a good Asus WiFi6 router or Flint 2 etc., Deco X60 is another option)
Steps:
1. Put the ONT in Bridge Mode after configuring VLAN in ONT itself, so that VLAN translation is done by ONT. Leave everything else to Default.
2. Configure PPPoE in Deco App entering your Username and Password, Configure your preferred DNS, MTU Size is 1492 (This should work in upgraded BNGs, if you have trouble, just keep it to 1460)
3. Configure IPv6 as follows:
a) Internet Connection Type: PPPoE
b) Sync IPv4 Account: Yes/Turned On
c) Get IPv6 Address: Stateless
d) Prefix Delegation: Yes/Turned On
e) DNS Address: Auto is NOT RECOMMENDED. Use Cloudlfare IPv6 DNS (2606:4700:4700::1001, 2606:4700:4700::1111) or whatever equivalent IPv6 address of the IPv4 DNS server you prefer. I use NextDNS.
f) Assigned Type is SLAAC + Stateless DHCP (DHCP v6 works but its a trainwreck buggy situation as of posting this)
You should be done.
Notes:
1. New ONT may not register PON, contact LCO to reset the MAC Binding and ONT Serial Number Binding in their OLTs when you change ONTs. Just tell them your old one caught fire or something, and so you got your own.
2. BSNL binds MAC to PPPoE, so Bridge Mode may not work. Solutions are:
a) Use MAC Cloning in Advanced Settings in Deco App, and clone the PPPoE MAC from the WAN Status Page of your ONT, not the one in the sticker pasted to it, this is the recommended method because these ONTs have TEC Certification, so, to BSNL, it will appear as if you are using a TEC Certified Router, though you use a Bridged setup.
b) You can inform LCO or BSNL NOC to release your PPPoE MAC binding after configuring the whole setup. This way, your Router's MAC will be newly bound to PPPoE Username, but since almost all the Good Routers lack TEC Certification, I would just clone the MAC from ONT instead.
3. VoIP can be configured as a separate profile in your ONT and can be used flawlessly.
4. In this setup, you won't be able to access the ONT settings through WiFi. (192.168.1.1 to ONT interface won't work).
However you can hook it to a Laptop and it will be accessible.
This is an ideal setup as per my views.
BSNL doesn't use CG NAT which is a huge W for consumers.
IPv6 is kind of not there yet with BSNL.
Feel free to ask any doubts, I shall respond promptly.
I don't work for BSNL nor am I a Network Engineer.
