China’s Xiaomi Building Patent ‘War Chest’ | Re/code

This is going to be super interesting. They have till now managed to stay away from patent lawsuits in countries like China and India. USA is a totally different market.

They better avoid US launch, IMHO..

they have avoided till now. but usa is the mecca of smartphone market. india and china might have the numbers but you only get respect if you do well in usa. you would always be the patent infringer company if you are going to stick to the safer markets.

if xiaomi can license the patents that they are indeed infringing, they could become a serious challenger to samsung in the usa market. which would make them a direct target for both Apple and samsung.

that would make the lawyers of all the companies involved super happy.
