Yeah .. what abt ppl already havin 2mbps .. i pay 2900 per month .. will this be reduced .. ? or will they offer a 4 mbps plan .. ?

That's exactly what I'm wondering!

So i got a call from Airtel today and they were proposing a 1Mbps plan (known as Swift) if i paid just Rs.100 extra and shift from my current triple-9 plan that gives me 384kbs.

The Fair Usage Policy on the current plan is 75GB, the swift plan being proposed has a Fair Usage Policy of 100GB.

Asked them how long the offer was available but was told there is no expiry as yet for this.

Not everyone got this offer he said, so it seems they are being selective but who knows what the criteria was. I was too busy the last month so only pulled about 10GB for that whole month.

So then i mentioned that Hindu article that said Airtel would be dbling speeds for everybody so why did i need to avail of this offer at all. I'd get upped to 750kbs anyway for nothing extra. But he said there would be a technical difficulty with doing that, only 256 or 512 would be rounded.

I asked him then whether he was joking or not, because there can be no 'technical difficulty' with doing this. Then he kept on pimping the Rs.100 worth of talk time, so then i told him you know what that ain't free you;re asking for Rs.100 for it, instead you're just upping the speed by 2.5 times for free. But he said no.

So i told him i would think about this and did not move for it yet.

The double speed offer Is only for Bangalore customers.

Airtel is the most partial ISP in India.

Hi, I have loads of issues with Airtel broadband like FUP limits, rates, but let me tell you that their customer support is the best in the country, as of today. Never have I been made to wait for over 4 hours for the problem in the line or elsewhere in the system and it has been sorted out. They even call you back to check if it has been sorted out. Last week when I had to move bband connection to another room, I saw the support engineer badge saying ALCATEL. Having asked him, I was told they have outsourced some technical services to ALCATEL for broadband and fixedline services. Now, let me tell you ALCATEL does not come cheap for its services, but Airtel has hired them for providing world class service to the customers, which counts. I have lived abroad in 2 different developed countries, USA and Japan, and in both places, never has the support system been this efficient and actually, almost perfect. Also, the speed Airtel promises is always constant, I keep checking it time to time. Yes, the call center needs to get better, but call centers of any brand, any product is similar isn't it? At the end of the day, we need to get best value for our money, and Airtel when compared to other BB providers gives it, for sure. Am right now looking forward to the free upgradation next month from 1mbps currently to 2mbps with at least 200GB of Fair usage policy. Hope you are listening Airtel!!

Couldn't agree more. I've been using Airtel since a year and even I've experienced similar quality of service. But still it feels as if I'm missing out lot of stuff when compared to other nations that boast of 50+ Mbps speeds. What I need is atleast a 2 Mbps stable, reliable and unlimited connection with no FUP at reasonable price. Even 2 Mbps unlimited is a dream for me. :(

MG, you reading this? We need speed. :wall:

Hey Chennaiites, has double speed begun here? From the last hour I am getting 1Mbps and I am on swift 1099 plan (512/512kbps).

Me from Bangalore on a Swift 1099 512kbps UL plan and I am experiencing 1Mbps for evening tonight.

are you on Rs 100 extra plan

I have been new to this forum, but let me tell you - I like Airtel BB a lot. I have experiences of other BB services like Tata, Reliance, BSNL, etc. But Airtel is the best. They are a bit expensive, but are true to their words. They don't setup their business just to cheat, like Tata or Reliance, who don't leave any stone unturned to steal that extra rupee from you. They have always been very prudent in their service over my last 4+ years with them. That just did it for me to shift from BSNL 4 years ago.

Everyone here talks about high BB prices in India, compared to other countries. What I don't get is why the same doesn't happen for mobile charges. Mobile charges here are a fraction of what is charged in many countries. No one points that. And India being a huge country with low BB penetration is hampering BB charges to reduce. But i see that changing in near future. See, you gain some, you lose some.
