Google Photos

both photos and videos are heavily compressed. it's fine to watch on a mobile screen or even a tablet. but they are no longer original. it is fine for keeping a copy for quick viewing and sharing. but do not use it to save originals if originals are important to you.

iirc images are shrunk and optimized to 1600 pixels and videos are converted to 1080p.

Looks fine casting on 40" fhd tv. Cant notice any pixels atleast.

I've uploaded thousands of RAW files (NEF). I Iwonder if they've compressed them as well. 😂

Got one e- mail from Google yesterday. Excerpt of it -
Starting June 1, 2021, all new photos and videos backed up in High quality will count toward the free 15 GB of storage that comes with your Google Account or any additional storage you may have purchased, the same way other Google services like Google Drive and Gmail already do.

So will Google photos T&C Change or its already prevailing ?

Edit : Found this Blog Post from Google -

@Sushubh That's why Google wrote following line below the E-Mail -
We don't take this decision lightly and we acknowledge that this is a big shift, so wanted to let you know well in advance and give you resources to help you navigate this change.

Big thing is that old pics uploaded before that date wont be counted in quota ever. So they still partially kept the promise.
