i currently use meghbela broadband and they provide cable connection. the cable guy has so far got his connections from airtel and tata and will get railtel in a few months, so maybe thats y he will give it @ so less. Will ask him abt the docsis when i go back home. Also i get the bb @ a lower price than normal rates as he is a local guy and have known him for more than 2 decades. Normal rate for the 4Mbps will probably be Rs 2250 or something similar. He wants to get rid of airtel line and keep tata and raltel (when he gets it) coz the airtel ppl wants too many their rules to be implied on his and he doesn't want that. Whenever we get together his nomal fustration is that "again the airtel ppl came and wanted me to put new restrictions on my plans". So he wants to get rid of airtel as soon as he negotiates and gets railtel bandwidth

I don't know the concept of cablewalas, we don't have them here in nagpur, but this one is good compared to the ones I've been seeing in the threads here. Too bad Hayai won't be allowing cablewalas to host services using bandwidth from them.

well 2250 is a bit on higher side:isorry:....if it gets to 1500 then that's fantastic.

You should ask him one thing more that what speeds and prices does he foresee one year down the line. Anything like 8Mbps for 999.
This people have a lot of knowledge about the future:cool2::cool2:.

We could even do 8mbit/s for 999. But it would have to be heavily FUP'd so... that's why we don't.

They'd screw up the experience.

If a cablewala wants to follow my rules and provide services according to our plans and use the same equipment and so forth, then a cablewala could possibly be allowed to distribute our services - and I've been asked by a number of cablewalas - but they all basically want to do the same thing, so the general answer is "no".

One guy even asked me for a 10mbit/s leased line and he wanted to serve something like 500 customers off of that. Yeah, right mate. We wouldn't even do less than 2.5gbit/s for someone who was going to redistribute, and even then, 500 customers? I don't think so.

@mgc, why not do/host a "meet and greet" for all the cities/towns you visit (if you have time), like for Pune too! This should also help shut the doubting thomas' mouths :D

I'll try, but I can't necessarily guarantee that it's feasible in each place, as most of the time I'm only planning to be there fore 24 hours or less before moving onward.

How much would you offer 5GB?:P I don't think You will offer anything like that but say 45-50 GB on a upto 100 mbit/s connection

How can he distribute 10mbps Line to 500 People mad?? Give 256kbps each??? :@ It's less than 5mbit/s, which is not in Hayai's Dictionary :)

You can get as little as 1GB on fiber, but... why would you get only that much? It wouldn't make much sense economically speaking. If you only want 30GB or less in a month you're almost definitely better off going to Hayai Lite anyway, but on fiber the price would be... well, come on, you could have worked that out for yourself! You know the price of the infrastructure and the price per GB :D

I think that's what he was planning to do - he even told me he would be willing to pay a price which I thought was actually quite high for a 10mbit/s line (this made me a tad suspicious too), so I told him that we would not supply him any less than some certain amount on to our network, and that if he wasn't prepared to follow the list of rules (such as the plans and prices, infrastructure requirements etc) that he would be better off finding an alternative supplier (in other words, take a hike!!)

I asked him abt the docsis but he has no idea abt that. His tech knowledge is limited so he will ask the tech guys and let me know. The cable guy is a very simple minded fellow. A lot of us have been pestering him abt increasing the speed to 4Mbps but he did not want to go higher than 2. I have also told him abt Hayai and the concept but he always refused. I guess he did not want to be overwhelmed by the technology. Now i am hoping that he gets the Railtel bandwidth and introduces the 4Mbps plan by Oct - Nov instead of chickening out.

He is the only good cable broadband provider in our area. we have more that 5 cable guys in our area who provide cable tv and broadband and we use two of them.

The one we take cable tv from provides extremely high quality Tv service but their broadband rates and speed r pathetic. They get their bandwidth from WEBEL and provide max 400 kbps@ Rs 600 with fup of 5GB lol.

The other one is the guy from whom i take broadband but his cable TV qlty is not that good ( a lot of VHF channels show up as grainy). The funny thing is that he started the broadband coz he got tired of d/l porn  @ low speeds and decided to start his own service.
My special thanks to porn for that good deed
