@Matt
Is Dadar area getting connection? Lol since we are almost 1.5 months away for Diwali Launch, atleast now can you tell me if Gokhale Road/Ranade Road area be served?

If beta testing by actual user is to be done, I wanted to help. Next to Jain Health Centre, Dadar.

ermm. how are you connected to the internets right now? i assume you are in mumbai right now?

Yes, I'm in Mumbai.

I've got Fiber to my building and I'm on my own switch. I pay for a plan with HNS, but Ripunjay has very kindly done some magic at his end to emulate what Hayai will be offering - partially to test the billing systems and partially to demonstrate what can be done. My laptop only has a 100mbit/s NIC (so I'll be getting a new one soon so I can show off some Gigabit Interwebs), but I'll do all of that only when I move house.

We're also going to test 2 of the other directors connections with their local cablewala to ascertain whether or not we could look at working with cablewalas in some areas while we continue our fiber roll-out.

There are pros and cons to this:
Pros: Such an arrangement would allow us basically citywide coverage in Mumbai on day 1.
Cons: We lose control on quality (I don't like this idea); initial speeds would probably be 100mbit/s; their techs don't seem to understand what FTTH is; most CW would take a significant percentage of revenue (which is bad for us).
Interesting: We could buy out the cablewalas.

All I can say is that at this point, it's doubtful that this option would be pursued past testing, but it's nevertheless worth a test for a few weeks.

Thought so. Its interesting what you have mentioned about telling your routers not to account for Google traffic. So does it mean that even if I watch a youtube video which is not cached by Hayai or Google India, data usage for it will not be counted?

Our routers only know if it's gone to Google's AS number or elsewhere, so it would either be charged, or it wouldn't. Of course, peering agreements have abuse prevention clauses which state that we can't route traffic to other networks through the peered network (in this case, Google). Only traffic destined for Google can be sent over the peered link.

Google has a very large, very complex network which hosts all of it's products on thousands of IP addresses all over the world, and the only consistent thing is that they are contained within Google's own autonomous system. Google has it's own transit from continent to continent & country to country.

If worst came to worst, then traffic to some ISPs might be charged at like 10% of the standard rate (eg Re1/GB), but hopefully this will never be the case.

And one more thing I wanted to ask you is about the Rs. 10 per gb plan. Will data consumed by uploads be counted in this plan? If I download say 50gb and upload say 25gb, will I be charged for 75gb or 50gb?

50GB. It's symmetrically accounted for, so if you purchase 50GB, it's up to 50GB in each direction, whichever expires first. If you get it 1:1 ratios then awesome, but more often than not you won't simply because most people download more than they upload, even on a symmetrical speed connection.

Wov such a super ping rate. Not ISP in India having such a low ping. :O MG u have started testing ur connection already lol. If u dont mind can u tell me ping for int12.darkorbit.com

Sort of.
Average 296ms. That's to NYC by the looks.

I think if the video is present in hayai youtube cache it will count for hayai zone. Let me tell u 1 thing, if u purchase 45 GB of data u get 45GB download + 45 GB upload and may be about 30 GB of hayai zone data. Sorry if i am wrong rectify me MG

Again, we are NOT caching Youtube. Google is doing that and we are connecting to Google directly. And then not charging for traffic to Google.

Hayai Zone data is not accounted for except on Hayai Lite, so if you purchase 45GB of data on a Fiber plan, you get many theoretical terabytes of HZ data.

also, can you show us the ping results we are likely to get from Hayai to some European servers, it will be very nice of you

Varies widely depending on which part of Europe.

Chances are yes, I think so. We're not doing public beta testing as yet, because I don't think the billing systems are ready yet - there is still a lot of integration to be done before I can consider them to be anywhere near ready for public use.

Results varied depending on the city. The highest I got was 307ms to the UK, some Italian ones were in the upper 200's but with less jitter than Milan, so I've chosen the lowest pings to each country to show what is possible. As always with pings, your mileage may vary subject to all the usual conditions.

I think you've sent me your address before.

^^ Yup. Address are not like Uk where they will pin point you to a home. The google map pin is more helpful.

You should be getting less ping than me.. you are in Mumbai and i am in Hyderabad infact my traffic goes from mumbai.

Recently pissed off Airtel (IPTV+broadband) customer here. Was browsing these forums just to rant about airtel but saw a few people mentioning they are waiting for hayai and decided to check out wth is this thing. And HOLY CRAP, Hayai sounds like a dream come true. Unfortunately, dreams rarely come true for most people so I'm really skeptical about hayai being able to provide everything they are promising for the price they are suggesting. In a country where someone living in the national capital is still wondering how to get a true unlimited 1mbps connection without needing to deal with mtnl's shitty customer service, can you blame me of being skeptical when someone promises 1000mbps connection (especially with all the perks you are offering) ?No offense to hayai btw. Just that if something sounds too good to be true, more often than not, its not. Given the fact that you guys are way behind schedule isnt helping either. All that said, I'm willing to sacrifice an arm and a leg for such a service. Just make it happen guys. I wont be holding my breath for it but be rest assured that I'll be the first in line the day your service rolls out in Delhi. Though I doubt that day will be here before atleast a couple years (possibly even more) :(

heh. you are new here. i remember the first post from mgcarley around 2.5 years ago. it has been long frustrating wait for most of us. your wait has just begun. ;)
