What is the "actual truth" about MEGA pack?

Few points I know:

1) You will pay for all the channels and chances of watching all of them is extremly rare. Who knows all the India languages?

2) Calculate the interest you will get for Rs.5,000 in FD. It will be around 500 in a year which is equal to 4months of starter pack.

3) Lets take the costliest pack, South Jumbo pack Rs.310. You will save Rs.416.66-310=106.66 (416.6 is the amount you will pay with Annual pack.)

We can use that 106.66 to get Neo Sports or Sports Platinum or whatever we want on a monthly basis. We will also save around Rs.45 per month as interest. Now if you add that along you will get Rs.106.6+Rs.45=Rs.151.6 per month! Which is equals to Rs.1819.20 for a year.

With this Rs.1819.20 we can get whatever topup pack we want

4) We will have the freedom to switch to other dths. For Rs.5000 we can watch a year all the channels with a new dth operator. Eg. In Big tv we can get 1 year subcribition with a new connection.

@Dhoni Good calculation.It clearly mentioned that the mentality of the people.As u mentioned, each and every customers think that they need to watch all the channels irrespective of the languages known to an individual.Peole need to change their mentality. I think people will hardly watch maximum of 10-15 channels.

Even if the DTH operators provide the channels in la carta package then people will surely hate them.Best example is Sun direct Dth service.They r the only DTH operators which are providing pay channels in a la carta basis.But the pricing is too high.Even i shouted their huge price in SD section.But customers need to change the mentality. For those who are working, then i think those people dont have much time to sit before the TV.For those people they will hardly watch 5-10 channels.Only during week ends people will watch more number of channels.

Agreed. Although even if you opt out of regional language channels, it would not reduce cost much as many regional channels are FTA, except SUN channels, which are hence charged seperately by almost operators

Ok, looking at this calculation looks good in simple world.
But take for example, you want to watch program on SUN channels, STAR Plus channels, Krisha serial on COLORS, Indian cricket match on Neo and ESPN, new hindi movie sometimes premiered on MAX channel, or good hollywood movie on STAR MOVIES, cartoon for your kids, bhajans from Astha for eldery in family and finally news on NEWS channels. Now to have this all (an Indian family needs it) , certainly in Tata Sky many packages would be needed which would go above 416.66 (monthly divide of MEGA pack), so then its good to pay 5000 and remain tension free about missing any program or match or movie because not subscribed for that channel. Then by paying once no tension of forgeting recharging and also freedom from any package changes (which keeps on happening)

Means get freedom from 1 operator and fall in trap of another? And what is guarantee of new operator is not evil minded like the first one. All are there for business and their aim is to earn money.

paying for per channel will prove to beneficial to many .. didnt know sun had tht, anyway tata has added those too.. the zee kannada and telegu, also sports channels- ten and star cricket. lets see if they get more..

If you are a sports fan then i am sure you will miss most of the GEC programs as matches run throughtout the day or day/ night.

Jumbo pack is best pack for south viewers plus the alacarte whichever they want.

Arun and Aswin I also think that people cannot watch all the channels and most of the SouthIndians won't be watching Starplus etc.,. and people from North not going to watch South Indian channels.

How many Regional language customers going to watch Hindi channels? Or How many Hindi channels subscirbers going to watch Regional channels like Sun channels? It will be megere. A Punjabi going to watch Tamil or Bengali channels? A Tamilian going to watch Punjabi or Marati channels? Regional people not going to watch Aastha or Colors or Star Plus.

Even if they watch Star Plus and also Star movies they all still come under South Jumbo pack which will cost only Rs.310. A saving of Rs.100.
Means get freedom from 1 operator and fall in trap of another? And what is guarantee of new operator is not evil minded like the first one. All are there for business and their aim is to earn money.

Some are giving 1 year offer for Rs.4500 like that. They will give you all the channels with a new connection and we still save Rs.500!!!

That example was given only for people who pay Rs.5000 for Annual Mega pack. Instead they can put that money in FD and save Rs.1819.20 for a year and also watch the channels they want. We can carefully choose the pack we want and enjoy even more.
