Best router for Openwrt in 2024?

There have been so many new router releases, I was wondering which router is the best router in 2024 for stable Openwrt experience.
It has to be gigabit supported router

Is a compact PC with i3 8th gen or i5 8th and upgradable ram , with pcie slot perfect for the OPENWRT and PF Sense
Anyone suggest or share your experience building a OP router

@Sanemi I haven't built a PC for routing purpose but the specs you mentioned are good for PF Sense. The one thing I would consider is AES support in the CPU if you want to run your on VPN.

Another thing a lot of people don't consider is the space and power consumption of a custom built PF Sense system will be higher than a normal router. Fan noise might be another consideration too but since PF Sense is not that heavy the system should be quite overall.

@zerosleeping I build a mini openwrt pc for 8k inr. You can get a mini pc starting from 6k on Amazon or any market place.
Make sure to buy a good spec one and you can add a NIC with the help of a PCIE Riser or buy a TP-Link UE306 adapter

Which Mini PC would you recommend? I wish to stay away from the low specced ones.

6k would get me something from the 3rd or 4th gen I guess?

@zerosleeping I got i3 8th gen for 7.5k while searching in FB marketplace. You can get similar spec PC for the same price .
You could get i3/i5 6th or 7th maybe 8th gen for budget around 8k .
There are many used ones also in olx and marketplace.
