Also, good move on Airtel's part. These FUPs make them much better value for money. Maybe Sunil fired the guy who made the old plans :P

i am so tempted to leave my FUP Free plan just to migrate to 2mbps. but do not want to pay Airtel 500 rupees more per month!

i already am on 1mbps plan. no FUP on mine yet because i am on an non-longer-existing iptv plan that was removed a while ago.
The 1699 Max 75 Gb plan has speeds of 2 Mbps.
And you can go for a standalone IPTV plan for Rs 300.For 2200 per month it won't be a bad deal until Airtel fix their IPTV plans.

EDIT:Just read the above post.I guess the best option for you is to wait for the new IPTV plans.Try calling the CC to ask if there are any new plans in the pipeline.

yeah. trying to get information if iptv plans are set to get an update too. for now, avoiding the temptation.

I hope they launch these plans in Mumbai too.. No change in mumbai tariff plans so far on their website..

from what i see, the plans are currently a mess. so many freaking plans. and some of them simply do not make any sense if we look at these new updated plans.

Haven't you seen my sig? It's not the speed that costs, it's the data. Technically they can deliver 150GB at 512k, 4mbit/s or even up to 24mbit/s for EXACTLY THE SAME COST.

Exactly and 150 Gb for 2100 rs comes around rupees 14 per Gb which is really very reasonable

If we compare it with tentative plans of Hayai where MG was charging 10rs Per GB + 500 Rs per month, it is same...

We all welcomed MG plan with lots of appreciation and now when Airtel is doing same thing We says it is still crap...

There is only thing between 2, MG is giving you unlimited data pay as much as you use and here you have to pay fixed charges, if you use more you will have less speed and if you use less you end up paying more.....

that is the biggest problem. if my consumption is more than 150GB, i have no option. if i want more than 2mbps for the same bandwidth? i have no option. i mean if airtel can afford to give bandwidth at 14 bucks per GB at 2mbps... why not let us get more at similar rates? why set limits at all?

I was about to write almost same line
Make sure you don't hire him :-)

Well with these plans if you study revenue Airtel will still make a lot of profit...

Say I switch to 150 GB plan and many other users as well, then as per their usage pattern only 20% of users will use the entire limit of 150 GB so Airtel will earn more from other who don't use the entire limit... and those 20% users will not affect their Bandwidth consumption by big number as the speed will be limited to 256 kbps post FUP...

So in fact airtel's profit from broadband will rise and not go below...

If they offer Per GB based plan or Pay as much you use, this strategy will not work ... because I might use 10Gb some month and 500Gb other ...

Having such plans is no profit for them, though it will not make loss.. But they need profit and growth in revenue after all it is a public limited company

As A shareholder I will be very happy to see these plans and I am sure you can see a jump in share price once these plans are rolled out all over india

well the point is... if they offer usage based plans, they might not make 'as much money' but they would cater to a wider range of customers. the fact remains, folks who are heavy consumers are a very small percentage. and they are the harshest critic of the company online. by charging per GB of data transfer for them, airtel ensures that these customers remain profitable AND happy. a lot of these customers are indeed moving to reliance which still offers a true unlimited 1mbps plan for around 1200 bucks. folks like me are not making the switch but we would eventually if the things do not improve.
