Should be fast from now on. In case you applied for a BSNL modem, return it back and get your own. The one they gave me was quite horrible.

I already have a modem from previous Airtel connection.. I think it can be used...so didn't opted for the BSNL one.
I hope the Pings are good at least. anything less than 200 ms for Indian Server or less than 300 ms for EU servers should be Ok. I am gonna play Online multiplayers so good ping will help.
Saw many posts here in forum about the pings and people are getting good pings. But It also depends on the area u living and line conditions there.

Pings are going to be bad during the day time. Things get better after 6pm usually. Pings to Google are awesome.

I will be using net after 8 pm anyway...so that's Ok.
How come pings are good in evening...I thought that like other networks...7 pm to 10 pm would be high congestion period. But I guess BSNL works differently :P

Nope. Almost on all networks daytime is high congestion period because of offices.

Still waiting for the connection....the guy who took documents told me BSNL guy who do the wiring only picks up his phone between 10 am to 12 noon. :D Somehow Airtel and Reliance are not available at my new address....Anyone knows how long it takes for the connection after submitting the documents? Thanks in advance.
For me I have to wait for about 3 months to get the connection when I submitted my documents in 2007. They already said It will take 3 months due to line work so there is no surprise... :-)

Ok.. hope i get connection soon. One que..some friend told me that BSNL guy would probably ask for Bribe during installation. What about ur experience? I wont mind giving 100 odd to him if he can somehow manage to provide me full speed as per plan and not 70-80 % .Can they actually do it or it depends on line condition?

I did give them 100 bucks at the time of my installation. This was around 1.5 years ago. But I got the entire wiring replaced few months ago and the uncle that came did not accept anything. He kept on blabbering about Kejriwal and AAP. Not kidding. But this was when AK49 was the CM of Delhi so things might be back to the usual by now.

Linesman have no control over your speeds. For that you would have to go to the exchange and argue with people in control. They would tell you that some other guy is responsible for backend settings. I even got a phone number to contact when I was dealing with them. The guy on the phone was not amused that his private number was released to a customer. He basically told me to fuck off. I kept on arguing with the exchange people till they increased my line speed to what I wanted.
