But with ADSL I guess we can get upto 1.4mbps upload depending on distance from DSLAM.. right? and Airtel uses ADSL or may be ADSL2+ ..

Airtel need to increase upload speed too .. 512kbps is really bad .. Gives me a hard time to restore the websites which don't have cpanel :(

I used to get 800 Kbps (100 KBps) UP when I was on airtel. :/

The most common deployments of the original versions of ADSL have a technological limitation of 1mbit/s only. ADSL2+ is 1.something and ADSL2+M is 3.5mbit/s. YMMV depending on exactly which equipment Airtel have installed in their DSLAMs and which mode it's running in.

I think they've rate-limited it now.

My Airtel ADSL2+ Modem is showing..

Attainable Rate (Kbps) Downstream 25896 Upstream 1325
Rate (Kbps): Downstream 11769 Upstream 1022

I have also used 4 Mbps plan on the same modem..

I was talking about upload speeds, not download speeds. Your attainable rate suggests you're REALLY close to the DSLAM (in your building, perhaps). The upstream rate suggests that Airtel are using Annex A or simple ADSL2+ which maxes out the upstream at a measly 1.3mbit/s, rather than ADSL2+ Annex M.

How to find the attainable rate? Is this the one...

Does it mean 4mbps speed won't be supported at my place?

How to find the attainable rate?

I think it is displayed under Device Info > Statistics > ADSL

Mine is showing: Attainable Rate (Kbps): 19568 Downstream and 900 Upstream

I see the mode that it's using is G.DMT - this suggests that you're connected to a DSLAM that's outfitted with older ADSL2 equipment - the max your line would support in theory would be 12mbit/s down, 1.3mbit/s up.

(Ahh sod it, my message editing went a bit foobar).

Thx genie .. I got it .. Its showing
10656 1152

Pretty accurate prediction by mg ;)

So, the big thing i got to know that airtel will also come with other plans with speed from 1mbps and some other.

2nd, they offered me some plans like

@1299 2 mbps till 30GB

@1599 2 mbps till 75GB

@1499 1 mbps till 75GB

I said i need some time to think :P , what u guys think?
